some random ctds could be solved by manually updating punkbuster
else
update drivers (gfx)
check if your system is overheating
freez up might be caused by anti-virus software
or low amount of ram (this can also be a reason for ctds)
please be more descriptive as of when the problem occurs and
what things have you already tried?
'[R-COM wrote:thepalerider;1261835']When looking for answers please follow these simple steps.
#1 : Read the red stickys First.
New PR problems are rare so most answers can be found here.
The #2 red sticky is:
"Read This If You Have Pr.exe problems"
Have you read it?
#2. Use the search feature on PRs web site or GOOGLE IT!. Often the quickest way to find what your looking for when you have an error message.
#3. Please remember to include your basic PC info in your post
You have spent some time trying to help yourself, but your ready to ask for help:
Please include your basic PC info in your post :
Operating system = XP, Vista etc.
systems specks = cpu/speed, ram installed, video card/video ram on card, type of monitor
network setup = cable, 4 port 10/100/1000 d- link gamers lounge/ wired connection.
And a brief history before and after problem started.
Please describe when your CTD or problem hits and
what you have already tried.
The more info you can give the better your chance of getting a quick answer back.
You don't have to write a book,
but your basic PC info is needed to help you.
Good luck

I had the same problem:
More ram, disabling widnows themes, updating gfx drivers and running the game in compatibility mode for Win XP solved it.

please define "shutdown"
crash to desktop (program just disappears) or unexpected shutdown of the computer (or is it actually a reboot?)

the shutdown is that the program just exits itself, disappearing for no reason. the computer is okey and when the program exits i come to my deskop. so nothing wrong with the computer its just the program that disappears. dont know what to do with that or the frekvent freezing of the game when i play. just frezzes for 5 sec and then everything is normal :S

ram looks ok, gfx too, cpu is a bit weak (if single core)
are the CTDs (crash to desktop == your "shutdown") random or can you find a pattern (after so and so minutes or when in a certain area of a map, when on a cartain map/server)?
try
- running pr as admin
- running pr in windowed mode to get an error message when it crashes (append "+fullscreen 0" to your shortcut's target line) - google the message and post it here
- scan your pc for viruses
my strongest guess is still with drivers problems (check if you can find newer versions of mainly "chipset" and nvidia (gfx))

it's a dual core. i cant see any pattern in the CTD. everything is up to date, can it be if i run PR in to high graphic that the motor in bf2 crashes becouse of the bigger maps and to much info going in and out?

it is reported that pr crashes due to low amount of available memory - however 4GB should suffice
are you using a 32Bit vista?
check how much ram is detected (
Find out how much RAM your computer has)
the video options "lighting" and "textures" are known to cause issues - setting them to medium prevents ctds (usually with error message refering to memory.dll though)
have you tried the punkbuster suggestion yet?
whats the result on windowed mode?
