join a server, press and hold tab-key, then click on the "manage" tab - you will see your name with a speaker icon on the right hand side, click the speaker icon corresponding to your name - it will get crossed out then click it again - your voip should work now again
this will happen anytime you press and hold the voip key when a round ends/map starts loading - your mic will stay open and will be blocked untill you do above proceidure
note this applies when
you can hear ppl via voip
also check that the correct key is bound in controls

yes someone tell me this ingame, the problem is that i dont have any speaker icon, only an empty square, so i can mute, unmute myself i tried)
infact i cant hear people via voip
and i cant use it
when i join a server it also put itself the voip's settings to 0%, so i cant speak and hear teammates
EDIT: today i could use voip for an half match, then when it load the new map it didnt work again

maybe a corrupted config file - delete your "My Documents\Battlefield 2" folder it will get recreated with defaults (and not corrupted files)
another thing you can try is to write-protect the "audio.con" (when voip is working again) in your profile's folder
can you please post a screen shot of that empty square / the manage tab in the scoreboard?

i tried to delete "My Documents\Battlefield 2" folder, but it doesn't work
this is what happen:
1- I open pr and these are my settings
2- i enter in a match, and voip work fine
3-After some minutes it's not work
4- so i press esc and i look at the settings and it show this:
p.s.: how can i protect the file "audio.con" ?
edit: now it doesnt work in bf2v too

Dear "venexian" friend , i went trough almost the same problem : my voip disabled in game ( also if not whit the voip resetting like yours) after some minutes.
My best guess is a corrupted file like was already suggested : i solved my problem re-dowloading the installer and re-installing the Mod.
I still dont get how ( dowloading via torrent ) but the installer come out to be corrupted also if the first time was installed correct.
Try to use a dowload manager (i used FDM ) since i suspect the problem is the size of the file and best luck whit the installing.

thank you for posting the screen shots
this looks really odd what happens is that voip gets disabled
have you tried setting your audio device to "Hardware" instead of software?
after the problem happens alt tab to windows and look if
a. your device is still active (showing up in device manager, recording devices)
b. the microphone is not muted
also check here if that helps:

i tried to download from other link: doesn't work
i tried to put hardware settings instead software settings: doesn't work
yes, when all settings reset, i press alt+tab, and i can see the microphone is disable, btw i can use xfire voice chat while microphone is disable,
so i think it's a Bf2 problem. maybe voip doesn't work with windows xp 64bit?
i tried to watch on device settings but all is normal

that screen shot shows the configuration for output sound (not muted devices will commit the sound and every thing not muted will be heard via speakers)
in the same window as in the screen shot go to "Options", "Properties" and select "Recording"
make sure "Microphone" is selected and click OK
in the new volume slider window make sure "Microphone" is not turned all the way down and has the "Select" checkbox ticked
also make sure the correct device is set for recording ("Sound and Audio device Properties" dialog see the guide below)
this guide show the screen shots to what i am refering to but is not exactly my fix suggestion (so just for reference)
Audio Setup - Windows XP
also "a)" I am refering to a non installed device - make sure in device manager under "Sound, audio and game controller" that your sound card is listed

btw: I am playing BF2 and several other mod (including PR) with voip on my XP64 now for years

since bf2 disables voip ingame and it occasionally works I do not believe that is has to do with anything other than your pc - so no need to open port on your router (besides is port openening/forwarding for incoming traffic (request originates outside your LAN))
i just stumbled upon some threads that already discussed this problem (googled "bf2 voip disables")

Help! I have this same problem(except that VoIP hasn't worked AT ALL since I upgraded to Win7). It's as if as soon as I join a server my audio options go back to default and VoIP unchecks itself. I've tried every solution I've seen nothing works. Can't figure out how to turn off Hardware accel because the troubleshooting button is greyed out.

I've heard of this before with W7. I think it had to to with a change in W7 'default audio settings'. Check them and make sure mike boost is on and turn down Hardware acceleration to anything but maximum.
Good luck

How do I adjust hardware acceleration? The troubleshooting button in display settings is greyed out, so i tried finding it in nVidia control panel but the only options it gives me is "Multi display", "single display" and "compatability view", none of which made a difference either way.
