Am I the only one having troubles killing anyone with the new insurgent pistol? (Browning HP)
I was all excited to see they finally gave the insurgent AA kit some protection. But then I tried to use it. And out of 3 extremely close encounters (<10m) I've killed only 1 guy, while scoring multiple hits on all of them. I believe the one kill I got was from a lucky head shot.
I'll be sitting on top of a ladder, waiting for the enemy to come up and get shot, see them, start firing, and firing, and firing, and then click, mag is empty. But the enemy is still alive? WTF? How many hits does it take to kill someone with this? I have no trouble using the American pistol, in fact it's almost superior to the rifles.
Is it me? Or is the Browning HP horribly underpowered?

the guys you are shooting at wear body armor. its designed to slow down or stop a 7.62 AK47 bullet, so that little pistol round isnt going to do much damage.

You're still going to have the wind knocked out of you, especially at a range of ~10m with a 9mm. I of course have never been shot but I'm sure it would knock me off my feet, and taking a few shots would have you on the ground gasping, enough time for the insurgent to come up and end it
Aside from the fact that it would throw your aim off, getting shot.

Same as all the other pistols; just about all of them use the same projectile template so should be the same damage although deviation can vary.
The Chinese pistol though does do less damage than others which is strange, although I'll give that to them as it is also available in different funky Chinese cartridges other than 9x19mm.
EDIT: Should take about 4-5 shots to the body to kill. You also also need to consider that damage drops off with range. Aim for the head I guess.

Yeah, i was messing around in coop, i think it might be deviation, I fired too fast or something. They all kill in 3 shots or a head shot.

This thread is about questions I have regarding the new pistol. Nowhere did i say it should be changed or suggested an alternative. It's far too early to judge that. And even if the suggestions and feedback sections were open I would have still posted in here. I wanted discussion, not changes.

think about it guyes, the number of times you've been shot ingame by a pistol or whatever, and managed to kill ur assailant?
yes...you killed him and he's probably now steaming that the pistol is ****
but you're screen is covered with red and you need a medic
remember that you can't always see how much pain you're causing the other player

As an avid pistol user, its all about speed, you need to empty your whole mag into them before they get a decent shot at you.

As an avid rifle user, it's all about range, you need to accurately engage them from far enough away that the pistol cant get a shot off.
Or use burst/full auto and put out a greater volume of fire.
Sexy canadian rifles are sexy for this.

Getting shot by any bullet that has a center fire cartridge will, if not kill you instantly, put you out of action for good, a large diameter low velocity pistol round being one of them. A pistol round is more like a deadly "punch" if you will, and a rifle round just goes straight through you, there are many accounts of people being shot by a sniper in the heat of combat and not knowing it until they see blood all over themselves.

Let's go and play a game. You can have standard, line issued body armour with ballistic inserts and a loaded but unchambered 5.56mm rifle. I have a loaded Browning Hi Power aimed at your chest.
Here are the rules: you can't **** the weapon until I've fired once. I can fire until I'm out of ammo, all you have to do is **** the weapon and neutralise me before I neutralise you.
Yeh, pistol vs body armour. Pistol wins.
For a fairer example of pistol vs body armour, you don't get a weapon at all and you get 20 feet to rush me from, then we'll see how your body armour stands up.
Pistol vs body armour. Pistol wins every time in real life.
Pistol vs body armour and ready shoulder arm, shoulder arm wins every time.
Pistol vs body armour and a second person, second person wins every time.
Body armour pretty much never wins on it's own.

1. Shoot them in the face.
2. Stop thinking that pistols are effective combat weapons. They arn't (Niether are they IRL, so don't bring that up). Your pistol is a very last ditch self defence weapon, no something to go on the offense with.
3. Don't get into situations where you're relying on your pistol.
4. Bring a friend. A buddy with an AK to cover your back is much more effective.

It's likely that the game didn't register your hits which happens from time to time.

The Browning HP and the L9A1 (British designation for the Hi-Power) both use the same projectiles as all the other 9mm weapons in-game. Pistols should take 3 body shots or upper thigh shots to drop, 5 shots to the armour, 4-5 shots to the limbs (9x19mm is better than 5.8x21mm) or one shot to the head within 30m or so. Beyond 30m it'll take more rounds.

Although the Chinese pistol does a little less damage (it's chambered 5.8x21mm), it does have a 20 round magazine whereas all other pistols have 13 or 15 round magazines. The only time you're going to notice the slight decrease in damage is when you are shooting someone from long range (beyond 30m or so) or if you have some foot/hand amputee fetish which compels you to shoot people in the limbs.

Th3Exiled wrote:For enemies that wear body armour, if you cannot be guaranteed with a hit to the head, aim for the legs. Since the legs are unprotected it does more damage, makes a great target for snipers since it will take them down in 1 hit and since it is such a large target, it is very easy to hit, especially when you consider bullet drop; At most ranges, firing at the upper thigh on a standing target will ensure a kill since even if the bullet drops it is bound to hit somewhere lower on the leg. The legs are also broader than the head so it is much easier to hit them their while they are on the move.
By also firing at the legs, if your target changes stance, it doesn't put off your shot. If you were aiming at the head of a target and he changed his stance, you'd have to readjust your aim. However, if you were aiming at his legs, if he were crouch you'd still be aiming at his legs or lower body, prone however might present you with a nice shot to his head.
Keep in mind that their is more than just the head and torso to shoot at, for unarmoured target, a shot to the body is just as good though and a slightly easier target.
For the gun itself, haven't had the chance to use it, though I guess I'll have to give it ago.

i dont think thats how that works in game is it? bf2 engine isnt enough to support any body armor properties, i'm pretty sure aiming centre mass is still the best way to kill a person in game

It doesn't work like that, but yes body armor does work on the engine. Assault/AT/Support (all the black guys) have body armor on their kits in vanilla BF2, and as such it takes more shots (only a few) to kill them.
