What is with Hot LZ's?

I'm starting to get angry at the general infantry population. In the last game, my Huey squad has had 4 fails directly due to squad members trying getting to their SL, or squad leaders requesting for 3 supplies because the BTR keeps shooting out the crates. Guys if you want our support, you need to keep your end up as well. I can't stress enough the importance of securing the LZ. Every time one of my pilots got shot down, there is always someone saying "Kick SoAndSo cuz he crashed into the ground." or "Man we lost because of the huey squad." Yes sucky pilots exist. Shit happens to all of us. But if you are going to complain about your trans going down because the LZ was too hot, you can go do some things I cant discuss on forums. It is a little harder than it seems to read all of chat, make the drops, avoid AA, other pilots, BTR's, (and now TOW), buildings, tree's etc etc etc. We cant see through the 2000m of fog and sniff the AA or roaming BTR. That is your job. Do us a favor and make our job a little easier, and I promise you will reap the benefits.

Bah, usually you can identify the hot zones from the location of the infantry. And asking whats there won't hurt either. Don't need to go there the first second the request comes in if you don't know whats going to be there. Shit pilots exist, so does shitty SLs.

I agree with the OP 100 percent. The helis arent psychic they cant tell whats going on at an LZ, they can only trust in the judgement of the SL who called in the chopper, which unfortuneatly is all too often not good judgement on the SLs part.

The new TOW's have got to be my biggest problem with the new version; every time I do heli transporting the skies seem to be filled with rockets lol.
Yes, right now SLs are behind the curve on identifying AA hotspots but I know there was a suggestion going around that a SL or commander could spot an AA and a big red semi-transparent circle would show up on the map. Hopefully this will happen and take some of the guesswork out of hands.

i usually make the LZs minimum 300m from any of our objectives. keeps the pilots safe and gives us room to maneuver as we close in. i dont mind walking 500-800 meters, infact its better, the enemy will know what bearing we are if we drop in too close. drop farther and even if they know, we have plenty of distance to flank a different direction.

The problem is, I do ask if the LZ is hot, and I usually either get no response since they're not reading chat or they just say sure and we go in. I guess that's the reason we should have a commander, but I've only seen 2 functional commanders in my time since .86
Holy balls a red orb on the mini-map would be amazing!

Ha. Confirmed clear. Who confirms it's clear? The SL calling in that 3rd crate?

I give an Ultimatum when I fly "Where to" "SL-Capture Point, etc" "I WILL get you as close as I can" No Hot LZ to deal with, if they want to fly in the heli, then they have to put up with where you drop them.

One of your 31 teammates? I'm sure they're not all crazy.

HAHA!!! Last night while playing (forgot the map, was USMC vs. Chinese), my squad was at the beach fortification and a huey landed right in the middle of my squad. I shot 2 guys before they even got out of the helo, and the pilot jumped out instead of flying off (???). Then the other 4 guys (including the pilot) tried to fight back, but 2 grenades later, 6 total kills and one down Huey. Wanted to try and use it to trade for some HAT kits, but a rocket Huey kept strafing out position (pilot sucked, kept missing) and eventually destroyed the utility Huey. Eventually, they brought in a LAV and it dropped off a squad and a utility Huey dropped off a squad to take the position. It took a good while for them to organize that, cause we seemed pretty well dug in (we even took out another squad that landed about 300m from our position on a beach).
This post sounds more like it should be in Tale From the Front, but it's related to the OP of the thread, so figured I'd post it here. Too bad I couldn't get a video or pics (my internet doesn't seem to like it when WeGame turns on).

It is a common problem, yesterday couple of our Chinooks were wasted because someone needed a lift and the LZ was hot: "oh sorry I didn't know about the enemy inf".
I've never fled any transport copter in PR but when I'm boarding one I never want to go to straight to the objective. Flags are never good LZs.
On the other hand sometimes you just have bad luck. While tanking my gunner have shot down many copters who never saw it coming, they were not landing.

The one thing i have learned over my time flying is this:
Any LZ that is not home base, is always a hot LZ.
Ultimately it comes down to the pilot. Just cuz he says he wants to go ->there, doesnt mean hes going to get 'there', instead you might need to take him 'over there'. If he starts bitching, just tell him hes lucky to be alive because he was in the presence of such a brilliant and smart pilot.
Losing some men, vs losing a chopper should never be an issue.
It doesnt mean i wont ever go to a hot LZ, but it means i will NOT stick around.
i touch and go, if ur too slow to hop out of the chopper, thats ur problem, if ur connection sux and u didnt know we were on the ground, then you probably shouldnt be playing.
