Sorry if this is a stupid question but can i get killed by a (I do not know how to say this properly) random bullet. I mean, lets say theres a firefight in North village in Kashan and i am in south outpost. Is this possible that a random bullet kills me so far away. Or is there somekind limit on how far a bullet or tank shell can travel in bf2 engine ?
Sorry again if this is stupid question

thats a good question... from my experiences, Ive been shot at a few times by random bullets (the ground around me poofs and im in a isolated zone) so i think so, but the chances are extremely low.

Theoretically its possible, if you have clear ground between you and the point of origin and someone fires into the fog. The bullet could come and hit and kill you.
However if you mean like a random ricochet or someone firing into the air and the bullet coming back down. Then that is impossible without proper ballistics.

I have seen stray rounds from fighting on the PLA flag below the main flag going over my head when I was at office on the other side of the river.
But I mean getting shot by a stray round? its hard to hit someone when you aim for them now.

Technically, if there is no objects in the way I think you can be hit by a bullet. It is however extremely unlikely.
I remember when we had the placeable AA guns and used markers to give them aim, one can still do that on Qwai as china. Try it. You will be amazed how far the AA guns can reach.
For a easier description, Kashan and Havok - they can be quite a bit up in the air and still kill with those explosive bullets.

IIRC bullet objects die after a certain range, modifiable in the .tweak files.
Don't quote me on it though.

yeah it's correct Z. i believe that CA has pondered a bit with it to make everything scaled in comparison to the map

works fast because people like to post ^_^ aloott

lol but ... yea i dont see why you couldnt get hit by a random bullet :S it would be annoying but hey anything is possible aaha. i have seen instances where you would get random flaking , pinging sounds of bullets hitting neer you from a fire fight not that far away

well one time on yamalia i was walking along a hill when a round landed just in front of me and i never heard any gunfire or take any more rounds afterwords. so i think it's possible, unless that was a sniper or marksman going "ah fu** it he's too far."

I once fired a load of Hydra's at the Hotel in Muttrah from above the carrier in the Cobra (nearly 1.5Km away), when I watched the BR file after the match, the Hydra's exploded in thin air about 200m from the hotel..... and they were heading straight for the target too.....

Standard PR bullets have a kill time of 2 seconds
"ObjectTemplate.timeToLive CRD_NONE/2/0/0"
That line is from "projectiles_common.tweak" which is included in nearly every PR bullet...
As an example the g3 fires at 840 meters per second so the bullet could travel a maximum of 1680 meters.
Some bullets may be custom though if they have a custom projectile-template defined in the tweak of the weapon/vehicle to suit the needs of that round...
For example the Apache Machine Gun fires at 1050 meters per second with a kill time of 3 seconds so the bullets could travel 3150 meters...

I think the real problem is that if you were hit or killed by a stray round would be that you would just play it off as some sniper taking you out. There's no way you would be like "oh man some random bullet from halfway across the map just killed me". If you said that to me I would laugh at you

BVR fire works great on Muttrah if there is AA covering your ingress, just hover at 350 above the carrier, get a marker from your spotter and fire 20mm at the numbers. Not many people do this.
"Damn cobra, its like an AC130"

I haven't been hit but have several times had stray bullets land close to me from firefights far away.
