***BF2 Directory & Patching Help***

Hi guys.
I'm new here, but I was wondering if anyone knows how to help me with my problem.
I haven't even installed PR yet, as I'm trying to update BF2 to version 1.5 (it's version 1.0.2443.0 or something now). Every time I try to run the updater EXE though, it comes up with a message saying "Installation Path Not Found". Granted, I han't used the custom directory when I installed the game, so I moved the Battlefield 2 folder to the default directory I found out about
here. Keep in mind that I created the "Electronic Arts" folder under "Program Files", just in case anyone needs clarification...
No luck with any of that though, so if any of you fellas know how I can fix this problem, I'd really appreciate it.

patch 1.5 is an incremental patch - it does need bf2 to be patched to 1.41 first!
therefore install 1.41 first
fyi: you can specify the installation directory when the wizard asks for it - but you should not drag-and-drop the folder somewhere else as the registry keys wont get updated but are required for bf2 to work
if you did that drag-and-drop it back that should work
or do a reinstall of bf2 specifying the custom folder when prompted for

Sorry mate, but I'm kinda lost here. I never actually had an opportunity to give the installer my BF2 directory, it just asked me to pick a language, and then started loading a green bar which stopped about 1/5th of the way in. That's when it gave me the error message.
And I'm not sure what you mean by dragging-and-dropping the BF2 file; do you mean that it won't be detected by the installer until I edit some registry values? Cause it won't be any better if I put it back where it was originally, as it wasn't being detected there either. And BF2 still worked after I moved it.

not having the disk anymore is a grave problem
the installer asking for a path is the regular bf2 installer form the disk (which you dont have anymore) thats what i was talking about
patches do not ask for a path, they look into the registry and check where bf2 was installed to and will try to install there
did you try to install bf2 1.41 yet?
if you have never installed bf2 on that system i am wondering how you are able to play
if it was installed there there might still be some bf2 registry keys refering to the location you have installed bf2 to first
default directory of BF2 is "C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2" afaik
you can also search the registry for hints on where bf2 is expected to be - hit Win-key + R and then type "regedit" hit return - CTRL + F and search for "Battlefield 2" or "bf2.exe" (without quotations) - you might eventually come to an entry where the path is shown (search next with "F3"-button)
copy or cut and paste your BF2-Folder into where it is supposed to be
then patch with 1.41 and then 1.5 in that order

I never actually installed it on the computer I'm using (my laptop).
I installed it on my old computer and lost the disk before I bought my laptop, so I just transferred the files and was able to play (by downloading a no-disk fix). It's all legal, but I guess there were never any registry values changed (or whatever), and even though I reconstructed the same install path that BF2 used on my old computer, the patch can't find it.
Does this change anything?

seeing that it was never installed you will have to either get a new copy/lend a disk form a friend for a fresh install as there are no registry entries the patches need, or have some1 tell/send you registry entries to add (i cannot give you those as i dont have BF2 installed and wont get my hands on any pc that does before mid march)
edit: could you get the regkeys from your old pc maybe?

Nah, my old computer's history, that's why I have a laptop.
Alright, I'll make a new thread and ask about reg entries. If that doesn't work,, then I guess I'lll have to buy the game off Steam, as nobody sells it anymore (I hope I don't have to do that though, cause that'll shape my internet anyway)...
Thanks for the help mate.
