You press 'G' to pick up the rope, but you drop your kit so you have to press G a second time.
Obviously not a big deal.

You only drop your kit and pick up another one if there's a kit lying on the ground next to the rope. It shouldn't happen if you just press G out in the open

Has this actually happened or is this just an assumption that you made?
Because I've never had that problem. Like XxxGrANdmA said, you only drop your kit when you press G when there is another kit lying on the ground. For dropping a kit without picking up a new one, you have to go to the kit select menu and right click. So, unless this actually happened, it's not a bug...

Yep happens every time I try to pick up my rope.

I dont have this problem. Everytime i try to pick up the rope, it works with no problems.

What steps are you going through to pick up said rope clearly something is going wrong here.

I'll check and report back.

What happened is there was a kit lying around and you accidentally picked it up, this was never a bug nor really a feature.

This is likely an accurate statement. Just be careful of kit bags and the invisable 'unarmed' kits on the floor.
