Third Mumble Bind / talk to enemies 'local'

Reading over my post in the discussion forums about what to do with surrendered players people kept talking about the only way it would work is through a single mumble channel. such as on RT server....

Most of the time a single channel gets annoying and does not promote mumble usage because of enemies ability to pinpoint your location localy. giving them an advantage
since there is no Whisper function its full out i can hear the direction of the the enemy...

OKAY .. SO people were talking about its fun to talk to the enemies some times too..

Why cant there be a PR mumble V2 or somthing that allows you to hit a third keybind to talk LOCALY between Team 1 Team 2 channels so that you can talk to an enemy if you want to OR talk only on your team designated mumble channel to squad mates around your position.

way it Could be set up is:

Sever Channel: PR is awsome server V.909 (ex)
*( Global Local ) Channel
-Team1
(Sq Leaders1)
-Team2
(Sq Leaders1)

So that since both teams are under Global local channel a way would be worked in so that you can communicate ( LOCAL ONLY ) between channels not disturbing any gameplay by the use of FORCE CENTER.

And a plus would be at the end of each round both teams can talk to eachother about the round using the (third keybind function)

Again i am not any sort of Coder and i wouldnt beable to help in the creation.
Please give your imputs

^^This

And a Transport channel, so Squad Leaders can give incoming Transports (Helicopter/APC) precises logistics on the area they are entering. This could also be used to give precise LZs (no more enemies hearing your destination through local speech).

the only time that being able to talk to the enemy really means alot to gameplay imo is for collaborators, anything else gets in the way of tactics imo.

OR make that third Key bind to a function where only people within 2-5 meters of you will hear. thus simulating whispering, no one not even squad mates can hear you unless you are within that 2-5 meters. ANYONE within that range can hear you, so if your hiding behind a fence and theres an enemy on the other side, he will hear you. sound like a good option?

a good partial fix for Clans would be to improvise some sort of veiled speech like a real military has and use that. example being how Medic is Starlight, engineers are Bluebell, etc. so even if enemies close by hear your mumble, atleast they wont know wtf you're talking about.

Mumble needs to be made team specific before I, and many others, will have faith in it.

I've yet to find a working example of Mumble where being able to talk to the enemy was helpful in anyway. It does 2 things:

1.) Stops people using mumble in proximity of the enemy (return to voip = Mumble is made redundant)
2.) Encourages 'HAHAHA I KILLED YOU, SUCK MY BALLS'.

Yes it's "realistic" that you can hear the enemy, but I imagine in CQB you'd be a little more quiet than Mumble allows...

Its currently possible to have Mumble team-specific, if you arrange your channels properly. I think all you require is 2 team channels, and possibly additional squad leader channels.

...mongol...

Two channel system is a bit tricky to admin, plus all the mumble detractors use the need to alt tab and put yourself in the right channel as a reason not to use it.
I virtually only ever play with Mumble (I can't be arsed to type any more) when enemies are close on a single channel server like RT I just tell the squad to use VOIP, i find it increases the excitement.
Using the SL channel enemies CAN NOT hear you when talking to other SL's (e.g. trans or CAS), as Force centre is used in its own channel.
IMHO Mumble improves drastically PR particularly with 0.9 needing more teamwork than ever before.
But after this if one day all the channel stuff was automatic it would be great.

exactly...so mumble is team specific if you have you're channels arranged like that

example is Tactical Gamer, that TnT or UKWF don't have that same arrangement is the primary reason I don't play there.

TG and many other servers have team channels segregated.

What the suggestion here is, I think, is to have a separate button for talking to enemies for those servers that have teams segregated. I'd actually quite like this.

I really dont see the need to separate the 2 teams. I think it ads another level of realism and tactic that you have to be a little carefull with what you are saying. In most cases you should be using Voip.. And since all the real tactical planning is made in the SL channel (which IS team separated) i fail to see a problem.
Its only in quite close combat that you can hear each other anyway, and then i dont mind that we can hear each other srceaming "Shoot him!!! He is right there omg!" :p
+ of course all the roleplaying you are missing with separated chat.

The reason is that if you are having IDF versus Russians or Americans vs MEC, everyone is speaking english. That makes no sense and is not realistic and breaks immersion.

Unfortunately it wont work with the current PRMumble version. With the setup mentioned in your example, the only way for the team to talk to one another without the enemy hearing, would be to force center. Wouldn't be very practical.

With the new version of Mumble (Non PR version) there is an ability to whisper, but it has nothing to do with this kind of whispering. It just allows the user to speak to someone in Mumble without anyone else hearing them, regardless if they're in the same Mumble channel or not.

 You know the portion of the Audio Configuration Wizard where it has the blue/green/red bar that you can adjust?

Image

What if they included another color, a "whisper" function that allowed the user to set a threshold; If they spoke soft enough and the volume didn't go over the threshold, then local speech would be limited to say 5m instead of the full 70m. No extra buttons to push, no additional channels to set up.

no good can come from it, i can only imagine the chat spam and allah akbars.
what do you really need to say to enemy? if you are in talking distance, let your rifle talk for you.

and yet your not an english speaking faction your still speaking english to each other and chat is still in english as well. What difference does that make?

Draakon wrote:Saying do use VOIP instead of Mumble when enemy is close is same as saying "Do not use Mumble, it is bad for the game".

Also, not having the ability to talk to the enemy in 3d audio, breaks the game impression it currently has. Plus, it will avoid chat spam.

So, to sum it all up: We need a third button to speak to the enemy locally.
... dude it sounds like you just contradicted your self a few times.... At least your on the for idea it seems ahaha
