conecting laptops to screens

I will probably be getting a laptop soon, but I want one that is able to connect to my screen keyboard, and mouse, but I want to know if this is possible and what I need to get, if anything. I hope to bo able to put my laptop where my computer is and use it like a desk top

that is if your laptop has the connector of course, but if so yes all you will need is as fuzzy says

I don't know much about plugs and cables but are those the cables that usually are on the screen or do I need to buy one

well does the plug on the end of your screens caple fit into a socket on your laptop (without the help of a hammer)

well most should say what sort of connection they have but the do come with multiple sorts of connection, my laptop for instance came with VGA, S-video and HDMI connectors.

please post model and brand of the devices you are trying to link
also when trying to connect a keyboard: old mice and keyboards use PS2 - but new laptops dont have those or just one PS2 port - you will need a PS2 -> USB converter in that case (
Google)
old monitors use VGA new notebooks only have DVI - theres an adapter for that too:

(make sure to have them the right way around - e.g. you dont need a DVI to VGA adapter - thats a different one)

I have a mouse and keyboard plugged in on USB. I have a HDMI 24" moniter plugged in via the HDMI port, but I had to update my VGA driver to get the HDMI sound to go through the HDMI port as my moniter is a TV one too with decent speakers.
Asus 24T1E.
I use the portable screen to watch mumble.
