Freeze in Game + PC Frozen

Hi there, I have a problem I have exoerienced when I played PR 0.909. Since the patch was installed, the game freezes randomly and froze the computer down. (No crash or shut down)

My PC specs are:
OS: Window 7 Ultimate x64
Core: Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 @ 3.33 Ghz
GFX: Inno3d Nvidia 9600GT
RAM: 4 GB DDR2

In game GFX settings.

* Resolution : 1920 x 1080

* Terrain : High
* Effects : High
* Geometry : High
* Texture : High
* Lighting : High
* Dynamic Shadows : Medium
* Dynamic Light : Medium
* Anti-Aliasing : x4
* Texture Filtering : Medium

My PC does not actually crash. It just freezes with the sound which was last. Eg: freeze when muzzle flag, freeze when walking through buildings. It is not specific! I checked the fps, there is nothing wrong with it (avg of 60fps). It happened to me in Kashan, Fallujah, Fools Road, Silent Eagle, etc (I believe so, I just have not tested it) It doesn't seems to be a lag issue either... I have PING 9 and it still happens...

Yes, I have searched through this forum (other peoples crash to desktop or shuts down, not my case). Yes, I have start restarted my PC several times. Yes, I have re-installed it twice. Yes I have tried to UN-clock my PC. It still happens. PR admins, any idea why? Please reply,

Thanks in advance.

I had this problem when I set the AFFINITY to utilize only one core. Fixed the crashes by removing it.

try it with textures on "medium"

keep windows up-to-date
same for drivers (esp. gfx drivers)

PC freez might be related to corrupted files
run chkdsk c: /r
check your ram using a memtest tool

maybe bios settings got corrupted - reset to factory defaults (either in bios itself or even better via the jumper [clear cmos])

hardware failure might be responsible (due to previous or current overheating it is possible that a chip got overheated - i'd go with FSB / NB broken -> Mobo broken)
try running a stress test on the system
check your temps if the pc is overheating -> dedust fans, replace coolant liquids (if you have experience with it)

whats your sound card?

How do I do that?

The texture in medium? Woah... That is gonna be sucks. Alright, gonna try that as well. My sound card is just generic On board REALTEK one... Nothing special. The RAM test and the rest, gonna try that as well. I will be back for updates.

PS: About overheating, shouldn't it just shut down if it is too hot?

I have set it to two, and I got it as late as today. BTW has Vista and launch PR with this.

Code: Select all

"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" /AFFINITY 2 /HIGH +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200 +playerName Himalde +playerPassword ****** +restart 1

What kind of cooling do you have? Do you monitor temps at all?

that actually makes it use just one core
from "start /?":

Code: Select all

    AFFINITY The new application will have the specified processor
                affinity mask, expressed as a hexadecimal number.
hex 2 = binary: 0010

(i assume that each bit stands for one core, according to the AFFINITY description as its supposed to be a mask
therefore you are using the 2nd core)

to use 2 cores it would probably have to be
hex 3 = binary: 0011
(here you would use the 1st and 2nd core)

do you have a similar problem, or were you just trying to point out that hyde's fix doesn't seem to be generally applicable?
