Mongoose's super awesome sniper overhual idea/s

As was brought up in another thread the idea of giving snipers radios and adding an alternate verson of the sniper kit: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f18-pr ... dio-d.html

  1. Laser range finder*

  3. Aplicable sniper rifle
  4. Colored smoke green
  5. Colored smoke national
  6. Tripflares
  7. Gtld

kit two's loadout:
  1. Laser range finder*
  2. aplicable pistol
  3. Aplicable sniper rifle
  4. Colored smoke green
  5. Colored smoke national
  6. Tripflares
  7. Commad radio
  8. Binoculars- suggested by [R-MOD]Crazy11
  9. Compression patch
reasons for two kits:
  • The biggest reason for the two kits is simply the gtld is next to useless for most maps. The majority of maps do not have air assets that requir forward air controlers/spotters. And several of the maps with such air assets tend to only be pressent for only one side.
  • The 2nd reason being in the last thread people complained giving the sniper a gtld and a radio would eliminate the need for a spoter (not going to get into the arguement about the uses of a spotter). With two kits the sniper will never be able preform all the actions a spotter would be used for.
  • The addition of the radio would allow a sniper to more efectivly preform it's recon task more effectivly when a gtld would be unneeded. The radio would only be able to place contact reports for what I feel are obvious reason.

why add a range finder, how would it work?
  • The addition of a range finder would allow a sniper to accurately range a target without "cheating" with the marker system. I have found it to be a highly disruptive task to ask the sl of what ever squad I am in to mark a location for me to properly ajust for range when the squads objective isn't nessicarly in the same location
  • The range finder would be similar to the ones on the tanks. A 1.5 or 2x zoom in order for perssion ranging. As a place holder the devs could use the gtld model as a place holder untill a proper modle could be made.
But my knife how will I get my staby staby on?
  • The sniper doesn't need a knife for defense as they already have a pistol. The pistol is a highly effective PDW when used correctly, able to hold of and kill up to 9 people per mag (headshots).
  • But how will I destroy FOBs or rally points now? The sniper should not be risking their kit by trying to knife a FOB already so there is no loss there. With the new rally system the knife is no longer needed to clear the rally.
  • Though a knife is part of every soldier's equipment it does not mean that the sniper would go around stabing people. Removing the snipers knife would hopefully jolt the leet snipers to think twice about ramboing.

I would just add binoculars to kit two.

The only reason I didn't include them in my original post is that it almost seemed redundant with the zoom on the rifle.

The wider field of view helps a lot when trying to acquire targets.

I quite like this idea however it would just give more reason to have snipers, encouraging less teamplay and more leet killing skillz as for the most part thats what snipers are used for.

If I could have it my way I'd remove the whole kit, its more trouble than its worth.

Unfortunitly you can't control how players use a kit, but I think a skilled sniper is invaluable to a team.

Edit: by skilled I mean effectivly gathering intel giving your team an edge while taking out high priority targets... Hats tows saws and the like.

Not nessicarly. You can't build an fob if you steal an officers kit while not being an sl. I imagin it wouldn't be hard to make it impossible for snipers to deploy FOBs even if they have the radio.

I do proper teamwork with the sniper kit :< (though i agree we dont need no more snipers :p )

But anyway, good suggestion, though snipers need to have something incase the "bullets" run out on the pistol imo(though i never use the kinfe i like to know its there "just incase" :p considering how many people run about trying to stab a sniper. Because really if you are using it on a few of these maps its hard to resupply effectively depending on the situation.

I like it, I've suggested adding a rangefinder for like a year for the very same reasons you listed, so I approve.
You rarely run out of bullets, and that can be fixed by giving the sniper an extra magazine or two for his sidearm.

you don't need two kits:

5. Colored smoke national we don't need two smokes change this for a radio or something
6. Tripflaresdon't think ever sued by snipers in real life unless in urban combat? i have no sources on that though

also the two kit idea alreasdy fails because now you will eitheir have 4 sniper out there or 2 snipers in the same squad which imo is useless just have ansiper and a officer you both have GTLD's and in real life i don't think the spotter would:
A. shoot at the same time
B. even carry a sniper rifle with him
the officer kit would still be a highly useful person to have with you in order to spot for you and wether you've hit a target or not aswell as being able to defend you better

I wonder if you read the whole post alot of your gripes/questions are already answered there. Also I don't think you understand or know of the alternate kit system currently in the game. Try right clicking next time you request a kit.
But I will start by explaining the kit load out:

the range finder is there so sl don't have to change their marks. I tend to snipe while attached yo a full squad. Usually I am a good 500m away from them but my actions are for the betterment of completing that squads objective and in that invernment it is counter productive to game play to constantly ask for new markers for the sake of one person

as for the smoke and not a radio in it's stead was answered in the op. When the idea of giving snipers both a gtld and radio came up there was outcry that spotters would never be used.

As for tripflares. When they were first introduced in .8(?) the sniper carried them and only the sniper. Then they were taken from the sniper and given to rifle spec. Now in .9 the devs gave them back to the snipers, why? I don't know but I like having them.

As for the body of your complaint:
there would still only be 2 sniper kits, I recomendations you fermilarise yourself with the alternate kit system currently in pr. It can be quite useful.
The sniper kit is limited to 1 per squad by request. So unless people abuse the system there can't be more then one sniper per squad.

As for your a&b thing that is ansered above.
As for having an officer about, I never said you can't take one with you. And your complaint is based on your prefrence of a spotter and not a truely objective assesment of the suggestion, and as I said in the op, I am not going to argue about spotters, it's not what this thread is about.

As i said in another thread, alternate click on sniper should give you the spotter kit. I dont know the items he would carry though...

And as DEVs have said, that's not going to happen.
I don't intened to be harsh, but the devs have said on several ocasions a spotter Is not going to be added to pr. But you never know they are human too, they could change their minds.
