So in the promo video for 0.9 I saw Russians sitting on top of a BTR-80 APC. I tried to figure out how to do it, but couldn't get it to work. So...how do you do it then?

Well, maybe you can see if getting in and getting into seats 3 and beyond.

There are two BTR-80 variants in-game, the BTR-80 which allows you to sit on the top and the BTR-80A which does not. You can distinguish by the fact that the BTR-80A has a much larger weapon (20mm iirc) than the BTR-80.

more like 3 versions, BTR-80A with 30mm and troops inside, and 2 variants of BTR-80, one with troops inside and one outside

I played Silent Eagle last night. The BTR with only the small gun (which looks new) only has views inside the vehicle. no sitting on top.

All BTR-80s are new. The ones with the outside seats spawn in the upper right corner after 10 minutes if I recall correctly.

So why do they sit on top?
Or is the cargo filled with cookies?

Those were the ones I checked. They spawn in G1 about 5 minutes before the tanks. I hopped in one and checked all of the seating positions. all have views of inside the cabin.

The passenger area is normally where the fuel tanks are in many Russian AFV's. In reality it is far safer to be on the outside of a Russian APC than in one especially given how light the armour is. Although that ethos was mostly for the BMP series not sure about the BTR-80.

If the APC drove over a mine everyone inside would be shreded

the easy way to distinguish BTR with passengers outside is this tiny flag on antenna

Search for "Outside" APC at A1 not G1
