PR crash on startup

Ok, I load up PR, screen goes black. Then It instantly goes back to desktop, and PR ends it's process, along with bf2.

Brand new computer. Literally bought it 10 hours ago.

x58 i7 920 CPU

P6X58D I7 x58 1600mhz MOTHERBOARD

6 Gigs of Corsair extreme performance tripple channels

and two 5970s from ATI

Why is this not working? I read on the internets that it might have something to do with my refresh rate, but no fixes.

Reply with a fix in the next 30 mins and i'll paypal you money.

Ehm,

I had this problem too,
What i did is (In Steps):

1) Go to Google
2) Type: Battlefield 2 Patch 1.41 And click the first link.
3) After you downloaded it Install it.
4) Go again to Google
5) Type: Battlefield 2 Patch 1.5 And click the first link.
6) After you downloaded it Install it.

Now you can start up you're Battlefield 2 Project Reality !

Reply if it works or not.
Thanks,

Best Regards,
TEF

I use windows seven.

Game also crashes when I just load BF2. Don't even get into the game. Soon as I hit the executable screen goes black then back to desktop.

Going to try to re-install and install 1.41 first.

I can now load the game, and play. However as soon as I join a server and select to spawn I crash to desktop. No error, no nothing.

I re-installed it already. That fixed the first problem of me not even being able to start the game up.

Then i ran into the pnkbstrb.exe kick, and the crash to desktop.

I bet people know how to fix it, they just don't have the motivation to tell me, and I want to play badly.

W7 users should run BF2 and PR as 'Admin' but I don't think you need to use the 'Compatibility to XP' tab.

Punk Buster not updated:
Before you go online to join a server
you should:
1. Download pbsvc

2. Start pbsvc installer, you should see options for install, uninstall, test.
3. Run the Uninstaller, then delete the PB folder to remove any leftover files.
4. Restart your computer.

5. reinstall punk buster files with pbsvc( if your using Vista DO NOT set compatibility to XP, run as admin ok)
6. After pcsvc installs, click the "test" option to check the punk buster install you just did.
5. Make sure it comes back "all green"
6.Download pbsetup
(pbsvc DOES NOT install pbsetup.
If your using Vista DO NOT set compatibility to XP, run as admin ok)
7.Create a pbsvc installer shortcut AND pbsetup program shortcut on your desktop.
8.Run pbsetup (from the shortcut on your desktop) add BF2 to the games list, then hit update."

(pbsvc installs the punk buster 'engines' or applications.
PBsetup installs the files/gas the 'engines run)

Check Punkbuster B is set to auto re-start.
=HOG=Romeo_One_Three wrote:Open your Control Panel. Go to Administrative Services. Click

on Services while PR is running. Select Punkbuster B, right click, select properties, select the

recovery tab and make sure they all say "Restart the service" for all three dropdowns. You can do

the same for PB A, but generally speaking, it's the B client that stops responding. Any time you

update PB, you may need to re-do this step.
Firewall not set up (open) for BF2 and punk buster
UPDATE YOUR FIREWALL

Make sure your firewall has permission for:

BF2.EXE
PBSETUP.EXE
(search for your location)

PNKBSTRA.EXE
path:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW64\PNKBSTRA.EXE
or (not 100% sure but for 32 bit O/S I think it's)C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW32\PNKBSTRA.EXE
PnkBstrB.exe
path:
"C:\Users"your user name here"\AppData\Roaming\PnkBstrB.exe"
Don't forget to open for BF2VoipServer as well:
C/Program Files/EA Games/Battlefield 2/BF2VoipServer.exe

Hope it helps

Just did all this, and it did not fix the crash on startup.

I'll keep loading and hope it does eventually start up and let me play, and see if that fixes the pnkbstrb.exe

update soon

Your PnkBstrB.exe is ether crashing and failing to restart
( Check Punkbuster B is set to auto re-start )
or it is getting blocked by firewall or anti-virus programs.

Next time you get the heartbeats stopped kick tab out of PR.
Go to Services and select Punkbuster B, right click, select properties, select the recovery tab and make sure they all say "Restart the service" for all three drop-downs.
Hit 'Apply' then 'OK' to close pop up window.
Now right click on 'PnkBstrB.exe' and choose 'restart' from the list.
You should be good for the rest of the night at least.

I know it sounds like a pain ( it is) but it works for me and like I said
do it once and your good for the rest of the night.

Hope it helps

pnkbstrb.exe and a are all set to high priority, and restart on all failures.

I'll do what you said exactly however and update.

Ok, so I went into a server and waited till I got kicked.

I got kicked and followed your instructions while having the game tabbed.

I changed all the values and hit apply. Then went to load another server.

Upon load, I crashed to my desktop. I then went to check if my services had restarted pnkbstrb.exe and it said this

iOJ - As Easy As Uploading Can Get

Very odd, seing as 1 minute before I sucsessfully opened pnkbstrb.exe and changed the values. Now it says it does not exist.

Wow. This is unbelivable.

After posting that ^

I loaded up PR, went into a server. Got kicked for pnkbstrb.exe

So I minimize, go to services and open un pnkbstrb.exe This time it works, I am able to get into the options for pnkbstrb.exe. I select recovery tab, and none of my options saved. It still says 'Take no Action' on all tabs.

If I select 'Restart the service" and hit apply, it saves. But it resets after I load bf2

Same happens to me, but it's once in a while not all the time.
You won't see pnkbstrb.exe in services if it isn't running. Like I said do the fix after you get the kick or after you start PR but before you join a server. Set all to restart then restart pnkbstrb.exe and you should be good to go.
Good luck
