A free hand (for officer kit)

I know hand gestures were suggested before (like combining them with voice commands), and this is not what I'm suggesting now.

How about a free hand for an officer kit, that he can use to show things or use it to do signals?

Details:
Free hand with a palm facing forward (as a weapon, very fast one). Maybe it can be added to radio weapon, cos the left mouse button is not used for that one.
Rifle in the left hand while using the hand.
Add poking move with an index finger on left mouse button click.

Usage:
1. You can use a poking index finger move to show things.
"Hey YOU! Yes, YOU. Get THAT mg kit and open fire on THAT window, over THERE!"
2. If on mumble, you can point at people
"Hey, YOU, buddy!? What squad are YOU from? ... Sq 6? What are you doing here then? Get the f out of here!" (while performing a quick move with a hand pointing in a gtfo direction)
3. You can make simple but effective signals
- STOP THE APC! (palm up/down)
- SEIZE FIRE (palm left-low/right-high)
- and you can come up with wicked signals that friendlies can see through a binocular/zoom: palm circle for a tank, poking down for infantry, poking up for a chopper, etc... followed by pointing at the direction of the tank/inf/whatever.

Praying with a civilian kit got me to think about this... I think if you would have a free hand, ingenious people from PR community would come up with something even more useful than what I stated above.
And I believe having a poking finger would bring good overall feeling to the officer, make him a true point-man. :)

hahaha that's actually great! It'll add more dynamic movements and just make it more roleplayable. Maybe add a commo rose with different animations? Possible?

It sounds great but i doubt these movements will be as smooth as you think they will be in practical use.

It's a cool idea man, but we have a VOIP for most of the comm. within the sq. Then most of the hand signals are used when you are not in the hearing distance, during engagement, or trying to stay quiet. In PR players just dont have ability to have their weapons pointed into the right direction while maintaining visual with sqldr. Now while the idea is cool, I think you would get confused really fast, and that's why we have mumble and in game voip ;-)

I believe the free hand as I described it, is fairly simple to develop and use, since the player himself is doing advanced animations (well, the poking would have to be animated). I would like to see it staying like that (no menu or other stuff). You don't NEED to use it, if you don't like it... but I think some experienced officers would like the feel of it, and I think we would see people waving and pointing in game. It would be also nice to see enemy squad leader directing fire.

And yes, you can do most of the things with markers. But then again, I've been playing with markers for so long, that I think if I would ever come back from a coma, my first sentence would be "Enemy on the marker!".
I'm sick of it, I would like markers and all those non-realistic menues to be removed (like that silly minimap), and the whole game to be stripped down to what an average battle person can see, nothing more. The free hand would be a nice step forward more realistic PR experience...

I'd rather get grey smoke tbh :)

I have rarely seen anyone use smoke except for smoke parties on carriers

I like the idea though I suggest adding the like a wave signal

What if the in game voip were to be disabled and there's only one mumble channel. Then we'd have great use for this.

Voip and markers solve this...

You mean the waypoints?
But then the squad leader would have to point where the enemies are by looking at them, and enter an on-screen menu, and then selecting the button for a proper waypoint... in the middle of the fight...
I don't know... it sounds a bit complicated, but I'll give it a try.

markers accesible by T commo rose... its a mater of 0.001 seconds to place a marker on where an enemy is...

on the other side... selecting another weapon slot for a hand, waiting for the animation of the hand, then getting everyone to look at your hand, then figurin out where exactly do you want them to shoot...

It was a joke... ok... I think you probably didn't read the part

Markers were great few years ago, but it would be nice to be able to point stuff... and I was a bit offended by your silly "voip and markers solves this", cos it is pretty obvious neither voip or makers can reach blue guys, plus voip and markers are just totally unrealistic.

It's good for a mumble server, like TG.

Basically everyone can speak to everyone around you, and it would just be sweet to see.

Absolutely, or get another national smoke.

This. I really don't think a pointing mechanic would work that great ingame. +You can just point with your rifle. ;)

And this is a resuggestion.

I've actually had my own ideas about giving the officer a "pointing hand". With the SL radio it's now almost impossible to be precise with where you call in area attacks (commander launched) because you cant see/be precise with a target over about 500m

They should just add a crosshair for the radio so we can see where we are putting things.

And this multi hand tool idea OP had sounds awesome.
