Ammo Box as a Kit?

Make the ammo boxes dropped by APC's and transport trucks kits. While on the ground it would act exactly the same way as they do currently, however if you press G while next to one, you drop your kit, pick up the ammo box, which has only one weapon slot, obviously 'held ammo box'. You can then carry it from, for example, the middle of the road where it was dropped by an APC into cover, a foxhole or garrisoned building. Once you are where you want your supplies, use the new 'drop kit' feature to place your ammo. Then run back and retrieve your rifle... (obviously it would make more sense to do it the otherway round, leaving your rifle where your planning to take the ammo, but its easier to explain this way)
AFAIK movement speed is locked into your spawn kit, but could the kit force you to aim reducing your speed and preventing sprint? Not that I think that would be too big a deal, can't see many people abandoning their guns in favour of a small ammo box equivalent to about 4 ammo bags. Although for non-conventional armies, especially insurgents, this could be a boon, perhaps an amusing side mission, stealing unattended ammo crates from BLUFOR.

What about simply requesting the ammo box and as such taking the ability away from the driver?
I don't think that only kits can be requested right, so can dynamic objects?

Nah, the driver should still have the say in how the ammo he is carrying gets used, imagine your on the way to drop supplies for your squad and you get caught in traffic, next thing you know you have been ambushed by four blue guys (possibbly without your knowledge) who pull all the ammo off you truck and run off with it.

It would make more sense if the ammo box is the kit itself, but i dont think its possible for a dropped kit to give you ammo.
Would be very cool to have though.

Thats exactly what I mean Chiz, the ammo box is both an ammo box and a kit. Dunno if its possible though. However, havent we seen a dropped kit be a deployed LMG, which you have to press 'e' to use before? So there has to be some versatility in there.

EASY, make a new kit that APCs drop just like u said then that kit should have only the ammo box , it will act the same as the ammo bag that riflemen carry, you get on the place you wanted you drop the ammo box drop the kit and then take your kit>

EASY, make fastropes...
We were talking about that the KIT is the AMMO BOX, not that it has it in the inventory-

But what would be the difference really?

I support this idea alot as it does help provide more tactics when defending a building and makes it alot of safer aswell.

I like it.
It adds a simple, realistic capability and an option that you would have in real combat, to move ammo supplies into buildings, bunkers etc, basically anywhere a vehicle can't go.
The idea to have ammo box as a kit is genius, hope it will work!
Could be really handy on Muttrah, for example, to allow a squad to carry an ammo box onto a roof they are defending or into a room to keep it safe from enemy fire.

Would be pretty handy to drag a box of ammo nearer to an RPG shooter etc....

very interesting idea...
it would be awesome if you could:
- pick up ammo (kit)
- move, and drop somewhere else
- resupply
- pick it up again and do the same thing again
Hm, if I would have to do it, the easiest solution would be:
1. make a kit that on the ground looks like APC ammo box, but when used looks like a guy carrying the big box
2. the kit has 3-5 rifleman ammo boxes that can be dropped
this way you can carry around a big box, while being able to drop one ammo box at the time, or drop them all on the same spot.
This is not really the thing we're looking for, but it's a really simple solution.
EDIT: I think this is too lazy... it can be done way better than what I just typed.
But the thing is, it can be done.

I'm now uncontrollably laughing. This is definitely what I'll be doing playing as insurgents.
I'd love to see this idea, its probably impossible, but maybe have the ability for two players (or one person dragging it) to pick up and move supply crates. Sounds crazy, but would be sweet.

IMO the simpliest system would be unarmed soldiers being able to carry ammo. Maybe an empty ammobag that you need to fill from supply crates or ammo crates and then it can be thrown to a safer place. Actually it's so simple that I started working on it myself. And even with my (read: no) experience it's not really hard at all. I might post a video or something at some point.

Stalker, in what way would that be any different to the ability of the standard rifleman? People do this already.

If this turns out not to be possible, perhaps a "Support" kit with Knife, Shovel, (Main rifle), Smoke, 3 ammo bags, Binoculars and patch could do the trick?

How about this... The unarmed kit gets another item added: the small ammo crate. This item starts empty and must be filled. It can be filled with one small ammo crate, like from apcs and such, but it uses up the entire crate to fill it. Ammo limit for it is one at a time. Then it may be dropped, just like ammo bags, anywhere. A large crate can fill up maybe, 4 small ammo crates.
This is the best way I can think of to implement this. And should be possible. Only thing which might be a problem is a weapon starting with no ammo.
edit: I just realized my brilliant idea is exactly the same as staker's. Should have read the whole thread more carefully. And it's different from a normal rifleman in that a ammo crate gives a lot more ammo than an ammo bag.
edit 2: And can it be made so the crate doesn't expire?

Perhaps I misread it somewhere, but as PatrickLA said, it's shouldn't be hard for the DEVs to do it at all! I mean, if you can't make APCs drop kits (which only have an ammo box, that's all, perhaps surrender and salute

), make this a requetable kit which can only be requested at the APC.
Content:
1-Salute
2-Surrender
3-Ammo Box
Make sure he has NO SPRINT at all.

If you made it a requestable kit you would have to put extra code in to ensure that the kit could only be requested 4 times from the APC before it needs to be reloaded at the FARP and again, you suffer the same problem that the ammo supplier has no control over where and when his ammo is being used.
