Better CPU performance in PR, Easy steps

This a non download option to getting your computer to run faster in PR by increasing your virtual memory.

A paging file is an area on the hard disk that windows uses as if it were RAM, Usually its set to about 50% of what can be used. The reccomendation is usually 75% on most systems.

This is how you increase your Virtual memory to 75%.

1. Start

2. Settings

3. Control Panel

4. System

5. Advanced

6. Performance

7. Advanced Again

8. Virtual Memory. ( box ) Click on change.

All the information will be displayed on how your computer uses its RAM and Memory. Usually if you havent already customized it in the past it will be set by Default on 50%.

Click on Customize, and Set it to what your system reccomends ( usually 75% ).

This gave me faster load times on maps, and it also fixed most of the lag problems on fallujah west.

Let me know if it helps you.

I've always wondered, why does BF2 have a page file the same file as the RAM usage? Is that for alt-tabbing or crash recovery?

I have 4 gigs of RAM and 10 gigs of page file, still get lag on Fallujah.

Snoogums, I guess Fallujah is just a buggy map. I tested the Fences that are able to be knocked down by ramming them with a vehicle, and i usually get alot of lag when i do this, but after i increased my page file space, i tried it and it went smoothly. I still got more testing on other maps to do, like ramiel and dragon fly, so ill let you guys know if they run better.

What are your computer specs?

i got 2.50 GB of Ram

Nvidia GT 7950 Card

PR takes up about 1.40 of my ram when i run it, so all the left over ram is to process textures and make it less laggy.

I got my computer about 5 years ago so these specs were good back then.

The dude who built my comp asked me what i would be playing the most i said BF2 so he gave me what i needed.

I got XP, and its not a percentage, its numbers that you will see

This menu is Below the RAM usage List. Above this list in the Customize Box.

Total Paging file size for all drivers

Minimum Allowed : ### MB

Reccomended: ##### <---- this is what you enter in the customize box. Usually 75% of your PC's RAM

Currently Allocated: #####

After you check this, Right above this menu there is the customize menu, Click on the customize ( Circle )
and then you enter the reccomended numbers that your PC tells you to enter.

You went from having PR take up 1.4 G of your 1.25 page file (at 50%) ie all of it to having a little bit left over at 57%, or 1.875G of page file. Just set it manually to 100% of your RAM and the larger maps will probably smooth out too.

As I noted I started with plenty of RAM and my page file was 6G before upping to no effect. Your issue was clearly a page file that was too small.

the pagefile size should (almost) always be 75% of total amount of RAM.

if you have 1 GB ram or less, your pagefile probably should be 1,5 GB
if you have 1,5 GB RAM, your pagefile should be 1,5/2 GB.

or..

if you have 2 GB RAM or more, your pagefile should stay the size of 2 GB in win xp 32 bit. I tested this when i used win XP back in the days and had less ram that i do now.

This should also be used for win vistax32 and win7 x32

for win vistax64 and win7x64 (not sure about XP x64, never tried that OS) you should have the same pagefile size as you have RAM. This to have least problems with your computer.

for those like myself who has 8 GB ram or more, don't touch these settings at all :) whatever you do, this will only decrease your computer "speed".

deactivating the pagefile may cause problems for computers with loads of RAM running vista and win7, for XP pc's, this may work ok for a while.

this is a personal experience, and if someone has more successfull experience than i do, please post in this thread.

though the less times you make windows OS (whatever) write and read to your hard drive, the faster and smoother your computer runs. for all of us that still have mechanic hard disk drives, this is still rule #1.

won't that make 150%????

75% of 1gb would be 750mb...
