So I have been helping a friend replace his motherboard and processor with a K9A Platinum and Athlon 5000+X2. Having installed all the components correctly (or at least with no obvious errors) and the computer starting up seemingly fine (lights on, fans spinning, etc.) we get the very annoying problem of the monitor just not getting a signal.

We have tried using a different monitor, with the same result. My guess is that the GPU may be knackered, but it does appear to start OK, with the fan spinning and whatnot. Otherwise it could be the motherboard, but as I said all the other components on it seem to check out. I've tried resetting the CMOS but I might try to do it again because I'm not sure I did it properly last time. I've tried taking the card out and putting it back, cleaning the contacts and all the basic precautions with no luck.

Basically I'm all out of ideas, any help on what to try next would be hugely appreciated!

What card is it?

Are there any error beeps?

Are all the external power connectors securely connected to the card?

Have you got another card to try?

Have you tried the other DVI/VGA port on the card?



Check through those and see if anything works, hope it helps.

Also if your are able to get into the bios there usually is an option to select the startup GFX adapter - you should try fiddling with that one.

Also make sure your monitor is set to the correct input signal (DVI 1, DVI 2, or what not)

See if you can use the keyboard to reboot the PC. (CTRL + ALT + DEL) If that doesn't work chances are your motherboard is not booting correctly. If you can get your hands on an old PS2 keyboard try using that.

Note: Resetting CMOS (often a good idea) usually involves switching a jumper back and forth. Consult your mobo's manual.

Is your power supply able to support your hardware?

Use a power supply tester to see if your mobo is getting enough power also.

Your GPU might not be getting enough juice to run.

According to newegg, the mobo does not have onboard.... So you should probably also try another card if you have one availible.
