Yesterday, I updated the server list and found this particular one with 100 players !
First time in my BF2 experience I have seen this (and sorry if it's a stoopid question), but, is it a bug? is this possible?

I have heard that the moment the 65th player joins the server crashes, I have heard/read that it is a thing programmed in so maybe they're just having a laugh by putting in xx/100 on the server list?

you can have the number set to pretty much anything (125 for example) but its pointless as you can only get 64 people in the server. the 65th either cant join or it crashes the server.

Changing that number is easy, you could even set it to 1337 if you wanted

. Fact is, nobody can join when the server has 64 players in it (it may even crash?). So this doesn't do anything, besides showing off

.
Edit: ninja'd

I've been playing on this server yesterday and I saw that but there were no more players than 55 so they couldn't test their server, I asked the admins why 100 players and they said that they were testing their server

Didn't we conclude long ago that we have to modify the client exe to make it work?

We are testing new assembly of server-side code and now try to fix all problems with server crashes.
Server-side code is not designed for 64+ players at NetworkableLayer, these code have hard limits in memory, and is we research it right now.
Currently server-side code were decompiled to C-like source text and now can be understood very simply.
Now server crashes with access violations in memory
here is code:
Code: Select all
dice::hfe::io::SWConnection::reset(void)
0x0847C042 mov dword ptr [ebx], 0Ah
for system this operation can be dangerous, if 64 players already connected and 65th trying to connect.
We trying to reallocate memory for this operation (resets), for each connection.
If anyone wants to look for source texts in asm or C language, please follow this
link
PS: This server located in Russia, and questions about the legality of not relevant
Please do not lock thread, we need more people who know assembler-x86.

The servers didn't crashed in the testings back then. Only the clients who tried to join the server that already got 64 players crashed.

Are you saying that this code is C++ ? I dont think thats allowed? Right?
But what mom doesnt know doesnt hurt her, so lets roll.

Everything we have tried to create a more than 64 player sever have failed. At a time when someone thinks they have a new original and working idea there will be an official post about it to get stress testers.
With that said no one hold their breath it will be a while if it happens. It probably wont ever happen.
