Hey guys I'm finally building a new build its going to be a major upgrade to my crappy current build that runs on a intel celeron 2.66ghz single core and pci card lol

Please let me know if I am capable of playing PR with maxed settings with the highest AA.

My resolution is a 1024x768

I know the Video card is an overkill for my monitor but im upgrading to an 19 inch hd monitor

which operating system will you be running?
What is your budget, maybe some one can propse a better part if he know how much you are willing to spend. (Not saying that the build is bad)

If you already know you will be running a HD monitor you should prepare for a higher resolution. This will effect performance drastically. Full HD is 1920×1080 - which means that if we say that your PC will run PR in 1024x768 on all high and AA (which I at this point don't cause I have not looked into the parts) this may not apply to the 1920×1080 resolution you will be running on.

Anyways, the first thing about the build that cought my eye was the 2GB RAM. I believe that modern systems that are trying to run games need at least 4Gb RAM. I am currently running WinXP 64 bit which is at ~600MB RAM usage. When I play PR my RAM usage is at around 3GB total. Windows7 on my laptop on the other hand uses >1GB on its own. (I think Vista is even worse). So you will be having alot of "hard-faults" due to insufficient RAM.

I'll be using WinXP 32-bit. Not worried about Windows 7 yet until most things are compatible with it and no problems. And im not worried about the whole HD thing as I will get a quad core and a better card in the future. my budget was 450$ and i alrdy bought all the parts listen above.

I'm just wondering if i can play all games out their with that build on a 1024x768 res

Your FPS will probably be pretty high, yes, although I am not sure about AA though, 4x should be doable though. This is just "guestimating" from my experience.

But you might experience stuttering due to loading of objects from HDD because of the little RAM. (i.e. the game needs to fetch a new texture: it will read it from the HDD (pagefile) this is extremely slow compared to fetching it from RAM, the game might pause for a split second while it is waiting for the needed file)


I am wondering why, when you have those parts already sent to you, you don't just wait a few more days and try it out yourself. Since you obviously are not going to change anything regardless of what's posted here.

At the time i had not bought them but 4 hours after i posted my step-dad had to leave so it was either buy them or wait 2 months so i went ahead and bought them and i was curious to know if i did the right thing or not

Most programs will work on windows 7

There is compatibility mode, and theres no reason to use a 7 year old OS.

Simply because it's 7 years old and therefore must be 'outdated'? Besides XP benefits from 7 years of bug-fixes and updates, and I can't help but think 'most' still isn't 'every'. I like windows 7 myself, but I've seen no ground-breaking features that couldn't already be done on XP.

Any specific reason for picking 667mhz ram as opposed to 800mhz or 1066, especially since the price difference is pretty much negligible.
