Marksman Rifle Ironsights-whats the point?

Hey all,
Was playing a round on ramiel the other day, and was insurgents and I killed a enemy soldier and got his kit and it was a M14 ironsights rifle. I was like huh? I know it was changed so you can get ironsights/aimpoint for most requestable kits now but for a marksmen rifle? Seriously whats the point of that, it gives a old school Vietnam war feeling when M14 were standard issue to a degree on the field, but having a M14 rifle in PR for coalition forces? Its like having a SKS for taliban for the US Army lol. Just isn't right and realistic at all and was wondering why this was included as a variation of the marksmen rifle and if the developers meant it to be that way?

Also does it give you this option for the other marksmen rifles dragunov, L85, and other marksmens or just the M14/M21?

The point? For fun. Ever heard of that term before? I don't think so.

And yes there are ironsight versions for other marksman rifles.

Personally, I can see people and aim on them without a scope. Maybe it's my resolution or my monitor, but I don't need the scope on maps like Ramiel and Gaza. With a scope I tend to get tunnel vision and act like a mobile sniper, without the scope I run around and quickly engage targets at any distance.

Basically the scope slows me down and can really hurt my effectiveness in close quarters. Same with the basic rifle, on close quarters maps I always go for the aimpoint/ironsight versions. And ever since .85(i think) I'm a huge fan of the SKS.

In many cases, my resolution prevents me from engaging targets in the more visually busy areas. But in some urban or desert environments, its pretty leathal. It offers a squad flexible, marksman capabilities in urban areas; while denying insurgents another sniper kit. The hard-hitting rounds of an M14 are highly valuable to US forces.

I myself have managed to successfully engage a parallel-sprinting foot mogul at 450m with an M14 irons. One shot, one thrill ;)

So you're worrying about extra optional content?
All other DMRs have an ironsight variant, except the QBU88 because the sights are too poor a quality to be of any use.

Right click when you request the kit, instead of left clicking and you will get iron sights.

Lange also the 7.62 NATO round at like 300 yards has more kinetic energy than a .357 Mag point blank :D So it is very deadly

Seven-point-sixty-two-milimetre...
FULL METAL JACKET....

:firing: :d rillserg

:26_suicid ... But yea, what's the point of this conversation? You don't like ironsights M-14 - you ain't forced to use it by anyone, just leave it. I personaly love this option and yea, even just to feel like the "heartbreaker&livetaker" and to have a possibility of modern Vietnam war.

And for it's deadly FMJ bullets of course FTW!!!

Also in future we'll have better use for this - P! R! Vietnam!!!

I love the iron sights! The M14/M21 kills in 1-2 shots. And,it's easier than trying go for the head with a regular rifle because a chest shot from a .308 NATO round can easily kill a person on the first shot.

yea i see no problem with it. I do want the QBU-88 sights though. doesnt matter to me how 'poor quality' they are, it would be really awesome.

I'm curious to know what a good resolution setting is for long range marksmanship without a scope. I'd love to use irons more often but I've never experimented with different resolutions. Mine are currently default as far as I know. I don't know if thats good, bad, or neither. I definately would have a difficult time hitting long range targets without a scope.

Iron sights M14/21 is my favorite weapon, it packs a lethal accurate punch.

Probably useful in areas where there's a lot of urban environments, or woodland/jungle environments.
If you want something with a bigger punch than the 5.56mm NATO rounds.

I run 1024x768. I've made shots out to about 250m with the irons on the M21. On the other hand, if you use the IDF Marksman weapon w/ Meprolight, you can just hose-down the area like it's an IAR.

in urban and woody terrain a scoped marksman kit is often useless. having the stopping power of the m14 combined with ironsights in capable hands => niiice.

same goes for the AR btw.

For the most part I believe it comes down to personal preference. You never know when you are going to be engaging in close quarters.

It was just tonight on Fallujah West I was using the M16 Iron Sites and multiple times I was able to get quick shots off on the enemy in extremely close combat.

At the same time I was able to put down suppressive fire just fine at a distance with iron sites, someone said it best your not aiming to kill, but to suppress.

Though I find Scoped weapons to be most effective on heavily wooded areas.

Too Long Didn't Read; personal preference, many are able to play just fine with iron sites, while leaving it to squadies to make the long distance kill.
