Mines were destroyable by vehicles in a couple of version of BF2, and are currently like that in Bad Company 2.
In both cases, this mechanic has imho rendered mines virtually useless as they are so easy to spot and destroy.

Here's a way to balance it. Make it so you can destroy mines with heavy weapons like the M2 HMG, but make them hidden in the ground, like FH2.

This is a good idea but there would barely be any point in setting up mine fields to stop armoured vehicles anymore as they can just shoot them and move on. I do not usually get killed by mines because they stick out like a saw thumb on some of the city maps like Muttrah because everything is light around it but the mine is a dark colour making them easy to spot. Mines are commonly used to block enemy vehicles from entering a certain area and are normally set up in choke points such as a gate or inbetween razor wire near FOBs and for the vehicles to just shoot and destroy them and continue to anhilate everything what the mine was protecting in the first place just seems a bit silly IMO.

Well, if there's a mine field the coalition has a solution to that and it's a mine sweeper stryker.

finally i can have my own EOD c4 mine blowing ops, i do agree with the OP, vehicle based weapons + C4 only

TBH thi would make mines totaly useless as a area denial weapon if a tank can just blow them up.
a better alternative to this would be the ability to thermite them and melt them or blow them up doing so, or just leaving the mies as they are.

Agreed, leave the mine destroying to the combat engineer, whether its wrench or c4.

out of the above suggestions, i think that C4 and thermite should be the only new ways to destroy mines
also, here is a nifty chart i found on da interwebz:

Is it possible to destroy a mine with small arms fire?
Could a M4 round take one out?
Mines are designed not to explode unless a weight above a set amount steps on it.
Like a vehicle.

Mines are designed to not be set sitting on top of the ground in plain site, as they are on PR.

The whole EOD Team thing isn't going to work that well in the current version of PR. Not only does it take more people off the ground, but it risks a very important kit out into the open, and wastes time when the vehicle could simply go around.
EOD teams are more suited to warfare IRL, in which they're aren't huge groups of armed Insurgents actively running around in the open with .50 cal Toyotas and AK-74's.

Since most of the Coalition vehicles are land based, running into a street of 40-50 mines is impossible to bypass by vehicle. If I am correct I believe the personal amount of mines an individual can place was 40 before .9, that is a lot.
does not have to.
first of all from 0.909 PR manual: "A player can place up to 4 AP mines and 5 C4 packs or IEDs simultaneously."
also IRL clearly you can't dig and hide mine on every ground. I.e. it would be impossible to dig asphalt in Muttrah roads or break stone bridges. It may take some more time if you are trying deploy a hidden mine.
So I support this post with prerequisite suggestion
Make land mines hidden on possible grounds (like dirt, sand, grass etc.) and destroyable with heavy machine guns, grenades etc.
I think that would really make everything more realistic and fun. And also don't forget that they will also be hidden for friendlies so trying to be a mine whore may result really bad.

I thought mines in grass were already hidden
Yes being able to blow the mines up seems like a good idea and yes, it may be possible if you use c4, but nobody with the right mind will take a combat engineer kit out on a insurgency map to blow up 4 mines that can just be driven around.
The incendiry grenades (thermite grenades) would be better suited to removing the mines because if i had a choice of crawling up to a mine and disarming , it or throwing a thermite grenade on it from a safe distance i think we would take the thermite.
I dont think that shooting mines with a 50.cal machine gun or blow them up with a tank shell should be added as it would render mines useless.
