Radio operator?

How is the radio gonna be used in PRv? each squad (or platoon or watever) had a man who was assigned to carry the Radio (a huge backpak) and the SL would go to him to use it. so ....is thier gonna be anything like a "radio op." class in PRV?

What would this guy be able to do?

Remember it is still PR,so suggesting things like Ac-47 gunships(or other things that will never be in PR) or new classes without any real function,is a bit pointless

im not saying that he is the one whos gonna be taking over the SLs job of calling in air strikes, evac etc. but the SL depends on him for the raido.

yeah the ADF had the same problem so they made it so that the officer class carries a radio on his back

I asked for this a while ago for regular PR and like they said this would just take up a role in the squad that can be of better use

SL (all ready has the radio)
Medic
Grenaider/LAT
Riflemen
Riflemen/Machine gunner
Marksmen (this is probly going to have a much bigger role in PR:V since he would be the only one with optics on his rifle)

If you think of this as being the basic set up for a squad, there just isnt enough room for some one to have a radio kit

Ah mannnnnnn, RTO's are probably the most classic vietnam-era thing out there
sure hope they figure out a way to code it in there- at any rate I'd say marksmen were largely independent to infantry squads, so I'd rather have a RTO any day (keyword: heavy Jungle)

but did they have marksmen in squadlevel back in vietnam?
or was it still just a divisional sniper team like in previous conflicts
in the films(not a great example of true historical/military correctness I know) you hardly see guys walking around with m21's, mostly rifle squads filled with a lot of m16's or m14's and the occasional m60

so how's that going to be? I always liked modern PR's marksman kit best because it's basically a super scoped rifleman in a conflict with hardly any real cqc, but in vietnam things are different, especially in the jungle it's obsolete but maybe in a city(hopefully we'll see hue) it could still be usefull

well...cant the medic revive be used and make the 2 players be "connected" *giggles* and use that to make the SL interact with the Radio man.

Idealy, I'd love to see something where people are only able to communicate through mumble and only the Squadleaders can talk amongst eachother through VOIP. Not gonna happen though.

If there is a need to see an RTO just make the squad leaders back pack look like a PR-25 radio with some smoke grenades or something hanging from it.
While I know alot about vietnam I dont know about the squad level marksmen (Im gonna say they didnt have them though) but with the way PR is layed out I dont think PR:V would differ that much, and I (personally) feel that Marksmen will be valuable for taking out long range targets like an RPG team or a machine gunner

With all the things you guys are putting on the wish list.. There is no way PR:V would ever see the light of day for a release..

Let's keep it simple for now.. ie.. Just the basics... but there are some good ideas being posted. Again, for the first go round of the mod release. We are going to have to keep it simple.

Remember this is still the BF2 engine guys, and VoIP is untouchable by devs:

i hear that

maybe they can put a radio on the back of say a rifleman kit, it won't work or anything, just for show haha

Well, it wouldn't be impossible. Just make the Radio Radial Menu available to the Radio, which only a Rad-man gets? I suppose it would bring the realistic RL-Nam feature, of the radioman sticking to the SL like a bad rash.
The SLs slots could be made up for with variable smoke colours, as I doubt the a SOFLAM-equipment was available/widely available back then?

....mongol....

Does that include disabling it (and using mumble instead)?

Pretty sure thats fine, should mumble become developed enough in which it can fully replace VoIp. Which at the moment, it cant.
