My problems.

Hey there.
I just installed Project Reality for the first time, and I've got some issues with playing it.

1) The game randomly exits to the desktop without any error messages in-game (It might be connected to sprinting, since it seems to happen in coordination with shift+W, sometimes it doesn't)

2) When there's a new level the game crashes when loading it 13% with a memory error.

Here are my specs:
Manufacturer:
Dell Inc.
Processor:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9300 @ 2.50GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.5GHz
Memory:
4092MB RAM
Hard Drive:
1483 GB
Video Card:
ATI XFX Radeon HD 5770 HD
Operating System:
Windows Vistaâ„¢ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6001) Service Pack 1 (6001.vistasp1_gdr.091208-0542)
Yes, I do run as administrator. I have version 1.51 of BF2, and the newest PB setup.

I get the random crashing sometimes with no error messages. Some days I get it and others I don't. Try turning off any programs you have that you don't need when you play.

Oh, trust me, I've shut down every last process.

Also, the crashing happened about a minute into a fight, every round, any day. :-(

You can try to fix memory errors by increasing virtual memory/paging file size (Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings and so on).

Update your graphics card drivers too.

What comes to crashes about a minute to game play, it sounds like EA Download Manager problems BF2 had quite some time ago. It should be fixed already though.

No, I've already got virtual memory on max.
And my graphics card drivers are updated.

Well, I never had any problems with Battlefield 2, and I bought everything retail.

This might be a Hardware issue. Possibly your ram is corrupted...

windows 7 has an integrated tool named "Windows Memory Diagnosic" you should try running this and see if it comes up with anything. (For Vista: How to use the Vista Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool)

Alternatively: You could use a linux live CD and run "memtest" from its boot menu.

Note: You should also make sure that the RAM is properly installed (the BIOS and Linux Live CD should recognize all GB always).

You can get a Linux Live CD here: Download Ubuntu | Ubuntu (make sure to select 64 bit version "9.1 desktop") - don't worry you don't even have to use linux its just for the memtest tool ;-)

Run PR in 'windowed' mode
If you still have problems
run PR in 'windowed' mode to see if any error messages come up
(instead of running in full screen, it runs in a 'window')
To do so
Right click on shortcut.
Choose properties from bottom of list.
Modify the text in your shortcut's 'target' window:
("C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" start +fullscreen 1)

Change
+fullscreen 1
to
+fullscreen 0

Then Google or use 'search' on Project Reality web page for the error message you get.
