flechette/canister

all hail the flechette round. armour used them a hell of a lot, it was something like 90% of all rounds they expended. the jungle allowed them to use their main to full effect.

i guess it would work in the same way the claymore does at the moment, except with a higher range and kill radius.

perhaps a selectable round? e.g. in the way you select from the sabot to the HE-I?

Care to elaborate ? yes a tank firing what is basically a massive shotgun can cause alot of damage, but a jungle map is going to be very hard environment for a tank , limited movement and sight will allow infantry to fight it effectively.

Semi - related. I may be thinking of something else but is there some kind of round that was fired from the tank's smoke launchers that had HE rounds in it? to kill anyone close outside the tank.

From what I read when looking into the Buckshot/canister round, The flechette round was mostly failure due to the fact the flechettes would 70% of the time (or something like that) not hit pin-point first.

They mostly used the 20 and 24 pellet buckshot after that.

If you ask me they could have corrected the flechette by adding more weight to the front tip, but I think it was already costing too much to produce. So they wen't with the buckshot.

i think i know what you mean, i've seen footage of a LAV25 firing some kind of rounds out, not sure if its from smoke canisters or what, but yeah it was like close-perimeter weapon.

think its at the end of Generation Kill too, y'know when they're watchin Lilley's video :-P

I think there was a shell which was like the claymore in the sense that it had an explosive core surrounded by ball bearings and it could be set to explode at a specific range but I guess engine limitations will stop that.

I think you're talking about White Phosphorus fired from the smoke canisters - which can harm people quite badly, as well as concealing the tank.

Oh yes.

But only if we get the Ontos to go with it. 6 106mm barrels of shotgun related death out to 1/4 mile.

Which would be pretty sweet.
