Flying Fixed wing with mouse and keyboard

I like flying using the mouse and keyboard but how can I keep the thrust steady at a certain percentage? With the key board and mouse I constantly have to monitor my thrust, always tapping forward thrust button just to keep it moving and steady.. Is there ne other way?

Get a Joystick and only use the throttle?

Not as of yet, as far as I know.
I've thought about making a script that would do this for M&K users (like myself), but I haven't yet thought up a reliable method to do so based on key-press scripting. It could be done by making the script "tap" W every x milliseconds, which would work but it would take me finding just the right number for x so that it would keep constant...

Thats still a bit complicated. You cant regulate the thrust and control the mouse and movement at the same time.
Cant we have a hover function? *awaits flame*
Edit: Scratch that hover stuff, i was thinking about choppers.

celestial's idea is not that bad, if you find the proper timing for holding a cearten speed, can you share it with us? I could program it on a button on my g15 logitech

I would program it into an auto-hotkey script that can be distributed for use by anyone.
Problem is I'm often a bit busy and don't have the patience to work on an unreliable method that will require 30+ changes to the time-value alone. Not to mention that the throttle is not linearly altered (it slows down on reaching about 90% on throttling up, and may possibly be doing this at a smaller rate during the entire sequence), so it probably wouldn't be perfectly practical except for one specific throttle setting.
Unless I were to go to extremes...which would probably mean something like having to force the pilot to go to 100%, hit a button to trigger the script and let go of W, and then when it reaches the level he wants then... blah, that's complicated.
Maybe creating a total-conversion script where (after engaging the script by a key press) each time you press W you go up 10% throttle, and S for 10% down. Still complicated and lengthy, but might actually work decently. Anyone up for some stopwatch timings and lots of math? I know I'm not...

As far as fixed wing goes, what situations use less than 100% throttle? Landing requires constant adjustment anyways, and if I want to go slower to force an enemy to overtake me, 0% is a better option than 60%. Am I missing something?

It's not 100% but taxiing fixed wings with the mouse is a pain in the wrist, literally. If there was another way to do it than that, then shoot, I never drive aircraft anyways.
Although I do have a joystick, I never use it anyways. I probably should go practice with it.

You can fine-tune your speed; say, you could be floating along at 800km/h and let the enemy jet fly way past you when he flings by at 1200+, and just keep changing it up to keep them off of you. It may not be used that often, but some of us M&K users wonder or have wondered what it would be like and if it would be useful for us. I have no idea how practical it would be in-game, but I figure it might give just enough advantage to live just a little longer.
Landing doesn't require constant adjustment, though. If I maintain a near-40% throttle by tapping, I can hold at low speed the entire approach and only change throttle when almost touching down, dropping throttle to 0%.
Adrw, you can taxi in a fixed wing by binding your pitch to two buttons (they should be defaulted to up and down arrow). Pitch up will taxi you forward and pitch down will taxi backwards (or vice versa, I forget).

Isn't this doable with xPadder (the progressional thrutle with keyboard or mouse?)
Xpadder
Try it out! And let us know if it worked!

The linked website is for a program which allows you to use things like XBOX360 controllers on your computer.
Don't see anything on that website that has to do with this.

The taxi engine doesn't need the throttle.
Use this.
ControlMap.addKeysToAxisMapping c_PIYaw IDFKeyboard IDKey_D IDKey_A 0
ControlMap.addKeysToAxisMapping c_PIPitch IDFKeyboard IDKey_W IDKey_S 0
ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_PIPitch IDFMouse IDAxis_1 1 1
ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_PIRoll IDFMouse IDAxis_0 0 0
ControlMap.addKeysToAxisMapping c_PIThrottle IDFKeyboard IDKey_LeftShift IDKey_LeftCtrl 0
Taxi engine:
W -forward
S - backwards
A - left
D -right
Flight engine:
Mouse forward or w - nose down
Mouse backwards or s -nose up
Mouse right - roll right
Mouse left - roll left
A - turn left
D - turn right
Shift - accelerate
Ctrl - thottle

because thats your throttle and will send you full pelt into the nearest hesco barrier
use the arrow keys insted

throttle on joysticks dont especialy work with Bf2 model Jets..... the ISSUE is you cant just set it at a certian throttle setting and you fly at a given speed... lets say your throttle is full on or full off - YES you will either Fly faster or slower... but anything inbetween is Useless..
For example MY Joystick has a throttle and the only possible way i can use throttle settings is putit DIRECTLY inthe middle of the throttle any slight movment up or down on the throttle will cause the Throttle % to SLOWLY increase or decrese pretty useless but works to a point....
i can see that the DEVS could incorporate some sort of throttle control so that ... you Hold your W key you go faster and you hold your D key you go slower .. buuttt if you Tap your W key lets say ... 10 times up you go 100% full throttle or you tap it 5 times you go 50% throttle ??

that would be a nice Fix

The engine in pr responds very slowly, maybe thats why you see this, or it is how your joystick is set up because mine certainly allows me to set any percentage I want and keep it.

if you wanna be a pilot then get a joystick as the mouse and keyboard just arent that practical

Wrong, and sometimes buying a joystick/throttle isn't practical. I for one am simply not willing to spend that sort of money right now.
