The Cedega Gaming Service - Play PC games on Linux

Apparently it(Cedega) can run BF2, but the problem will be likely with Punkbuster...not sure about PR thought atm.

bazza - Looks good but I found this screenshot

In the launch window notes, it says how MP may not work on PB enabled servers, so that discounts PR aswell.

Not to mention the fact you would need to install PR on a windows based system, and then copy over the mod files to Linux, unless there's a tool out there (being linux there most likely is) that lets you extract the files from an .exe file, although I know Ubuntu (Linux for dummies, but the shots I have seen of Cedega it appears to be running on Red Hat Linux) installs using packages, so it might be a bit of work to get the mod files to actually work.

All of this is a bit of a guess unfortunately, as my time and experience in Linux is extremely limited, however my initial thought is that games will struggle to run due to nearly all games using DirectX, and then if you do get them running (using Cedega) then you will have quite a few problems with anti cheat systems.

If you do get it all to work however, do please let us know :)

I miss playing around with Linux( my burner is on the fritz ). I used to dual boot WinXP and Linux(a variety of OS's: DistroWatch.com: Put the fun back into computing. Use Linux, BSD. ) and with the Linux side, I would use America's Army 2.5(Linux vs) as a benchmark/operating goal. It taught me a few things, and I felt like a "mad scientist" lol.

It seems there is more to be done with GNU Linux as far a gaming goes. Another 2 or 3 years, maybe we'll see something awesome and free in a Tactical FPS on the "Tux" side of things?

cheers,
