VOIP Settings Won't Save!

When i check the VOIP box in PR or BF2, and click "Apply", then "Back" it does not save the change. When i return to the Audio settings, the box will be unchecked  . I've read somewhere that editing the "Audio.Con" helps, but frankly, i don't know what I'm supposed to do with it.
PC Specs:
OS-Vista (as displayed on the title of thread)
Graphics-Nvidia 8600
Processor-AMD Phenom x4 64
RAM- 6gb
Monitor-Acer X191W
Network setup- all I know is that it is broadband

Here's a picture of the Audio.CON

Please help me out! I'm tired of getting kicked out of games and squads because i cannot hear my SL!

When looking for answers please follow these simple steps.

#1 : Read the red stickys First.
New PR problems are rare so most answers can be found here.

#2. Use the search feature on PRs web site or GOOGLE IT!.
Often the quickest way to find what your looking for when you have an error message.

#3. Please remember to include your basic PC info in your post

You have spent some time trying to help yourself without any luck, so your ready to ask for help:

Please include your basic PC info in your post :
Operating system = XP, Vista etc.
systems specks = cpu/speed, ram installed, video card/video ram on card, type of monitor
network setup = cable, 4 port 10/100/1000 d- link gamers lounge/ wired connection.
And a brief history before and after problem started.
Please describe when your CTD or problem hits and
what you have already tried.
The more info you can give the better your chance of getting a quick answer back.
You don't have to write a book,
but your basic PC info is needed to help you.

Good luck

Not able to use VoIP?
Did you try pressing tab, right click to activate mouse and click manage, then mute and unmute yourself? That seems to work most of the time.

Make sure you have 'mike boost' checked in your windows audio setup.

1. Yes I have checked the stickies, no help.

2. I have scoured the internet/forums of all kind for a solution, nothing that works, hence the thread.

4. There was no brief history before the problem, its always existed

5. the Mute/Unmute solution cannot apply to this problem because VOIP will not even enable :/

Make sure you have 'mike boost' checked in your Vista audio setup. Then in-game you should be able to run the voip setup.

The path to 'mike boost' in Vista is:
Settings/
Control panel/
Sounds/
recording(tab)
Click on Microphone
Click on the 'Properties' button on the lower right
Click on the 'Custom' tab upper left
Check 'mike boost' box

In the 'Advanced' tab under 'Exclusive Mode'
I have both
'Allow application to take exclusive control of this devise'
'Give exclusive mode applications priority'
checked

Once mike boost is 'on' in Windows
Start up game and you should now be able to enable 'mike boost' here as well.
Run the setup for mike 'threshold'.
Note:The louder your background noise
the higher you want the threshold #
I suggest you set 'Effects' volume to 20 -35% so you can still hear squad talk over the tank/truck/chopper noise.

Hope it helps

are you running as an administrator or with user account control on??

UAC tends to make files and folders read only limiting changes of settings.

This still happens to me too. I run it as administrator, and i believe i have the same system specs. Searched around the internet but no anvil. I also havnt got a mic.

It annoys my SL's and squad mates and i frequently get kicked from squads because of it. I'd really like to know if there's a way to fix it :?

Check that your recording devices are set correctly and they are working ok from Windows point of view.

Locate and run dxdiag.exe. Select Sound tab(s) and make sure your sound card(s) is listed and there is no error messages.

Open Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound. Switch to Recording tab. Make sure the sound card and audio connectors your microphone is attached to is listed and set default. Remember that one device can have several different connectors and not all of them are in use. Select your default device and click Properties. Select Listen tab and check Listen to this device checkbox. After applying the settings you should be able to hear your own speech from the speakers realtime if your microphone is connected properly and working.
