"An acute shortage of pilots meant they were rushed through flight school, catapulted into combat in the jungles and mountains of South East Asia.
Tom had already been shot down five times and Larry wounded twice before they embarked on their epic mission to rescue a company of more than 100 ambushed in the undergrowth. Surrounded and outnumbered six to one, the men's situation was dire. Their only escape was by air. Two choppers answered the soldiers' desperate call for help. But when the flight crews arrived, there was nowhere to land amid the thick 40ft bamboo.

They decided their only option was to chop their own landing zone using the helicopters' rotor blades. And to rescue all of the trapped company, they had to return five times.
Throughout the entire operation, Tom and Larry's helicopter was totally unarmed, while in the back of Jack's helicopter was a single machine gun manned by a chap called Al.
Yet, despite all these obstacles, the two choppers managed to rescue every single survivor"
luckily the tips of the rotors were solid aluminium and acted as cutting blades
Obviously you cant have a whole map of destructible trees, but in certain areas or small clumps it could be interesting.
this was not a suggestion, but that is interesting

In a book called Firebirds (I think, can check if someone wants to know), the author (who was a huey gunship and transport pilot) talked about how he'd often have to use LZs that were too small. So he'd have to cut his way out, however, he said that while the TIPS were solid the underside was softer, so you had to be climbing otherwise the sharp broken bamboo shoots would destroy the underside of the rotors. I don't mean to pit one story vs another, cuz maybe he had a different model, but thought I'd share a similar story. IMHO, I think the OPs story is a bit farfetched...

Luckily, no collision mesh on rotors then. We've all seen the guys landing on Muttrah streets.

farfetched? it was on National TV in a series of documentaries called "helicopter warfare"
the start is an advert for Lynx showergel and if the youtube link doesnt work the link below will take you to the video
the undersides of the blades looked like they had been shot to hell etc after the mission, if i remeber correctly they said that i was pure luck that the helis were able to stay in the air after cutting down through the bamboo
so they could fly back with the huey after this happened ??
would be an epic thing to chop down trees in PR:V

EHHHHHHHHH that is BS the the UH-1's had fiberglass rotors that can't be based off of an actual event because the bamboo would screw up the rotors let me give you a story when russia attacked the hajis the haji's use to use musket rounds and shoot the rotors the hot lead would then fuse to the rotors and this made it so the rotor was so unbalanced that the mi-24's (hinds) would shake apart there own rotors and crash so that is not something that can happen sorry stuff like that annoys me like when in movies where they chop someone up with a choppers rotors like in broken arrow when they did that with the UH-1 that simply cannot happen

What? Absolute codswaddle. The Mujahideen were only able to effectively combat the Mi-24/35s that the Soviets used once they'd received 12.95mm and 14.5mm heavy machine guns from the US, Pakistan and Egypt, which they utilised by blasting any part of the helicopter they could get a bead on. Soviet helicopter losses only really rose drastically once the FIM-92 was sold to the Muj, and even then only temporarily until the Sovs changed their tactics. They certainly did not routinely shoot down Hinds using muskets.

trying to hit a helicopter aswell with a musket.... thats some bad asss shooting right there
Huey's back then had a stainless steel tip which was the last two feet or so of the rotor blade, you certainly couldn't cut bamboo every single landing (with the same chopper anyway ).

This would be a real waste of time to implement this in the game. Lol, this happened like what? One time? And it screwed up the helicopter too.

Please NOTE that this is NOT the suggestion thread, this is the general discussion thread withing the PR:V section, where people talk about stuff related to the topic of PR:V, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, US forces early 60's to the early/mid 70's, ARVN forces, Vietcong, NVA.
This was not a suggestion, it was a topic to talk about that happened with a UH-1 in Vietnam other than getting shot down or FUBAR'ing stuff, so to prevent any more confusion Its just a topic to talk about and be mesmerized

i didn't say it happened often but there was a fact that stated it happened twice i don't have the link to it anymore but it did happen at least once the russians were pissed off
