So I've been messing around with Terragen and really digging it. I go to export my file into my map and then I realize that the trial version only allows 512x512 and this wont work for the 1024x1024 I am planning. :\

The question of course is: Is there a non-$89+ option to get a height-map creator?

Have a look at Geocontrol 2, at least give the trial version a go. Look at some tutorials on the BF2Editor Website - https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f388-p ... l-2-a.html

Began using it a couple of weeks ago and got the most incredible results - such a powerful program and I highly recommend it.

as a terragen user, I recommend geocontrol more, though I've not tried terragen 2

there is also L3DT its a really easy understanding programm

its not as good as GC2 but for beginners some kind of easier to use

I'm testing out the GC2 demo and it seems very limited, even compared to GC1... :\ I can't even build terrain.

Also the UI for GC1 seems to be harder for me to map out the terrain I wish instead of terra-gen.

the Demo of GC2 is with all content... its just locked to 1 month testing (or 3 not sure atm)
