I don't think there are any ice themed maps, why don't we have a mission involving the Russians and Americans in a conflict on the frozen lands like Alaska and the Bering strait already?

Good question, I don't think I've seen any snow maps on BF2. I can't say if they'd be good or bad, but assuming snow is white, and most armies aren't white, it would be a bit easy. Just snipe the black dot in the snow.

There comes in the need for completely new models for soldiers, weapons and assets. All properly snow camouflaged.

A snow map would actually be quite complicated to make. I don't think there are any current snow textures in Battlefield 2, so you could have to create that, including some new statics, new kit textures with snow camo, etc.

That could be a few versions, unless a community modding team did an arctic warfare mod for PR.

In fact I would LOVE a map set in Alaska. Finally a map set on United States turf, if only someone would make it.

op snow storm was a huge amount of fun, however there were certain things that were required to make the experience up to PR standard ;)

e.g. proper snow sounds for walking on snow, and sounds are hard.

watch the norwegian faction for progress in this area I think

How will we simulate players slipping on the snow and falling down, or snowball fights? Also, building "snow forts" you can spawn on.

You deserve a cookie for that. WIN IDEA.

But there should be more snow maps, I like the idea fighting in the ice cold winter.

First of all the proper term for fighting in the snow is in fact Arctic Warfare :p

Next as already mentioned in this topic, I did make a snow map called Op Snow Storm for last years Xmas event, which you can read more about here: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f196-p ... storm.html

and the reason why its not a PR map, as already mentioned slightly in this topic:
Rhino;1210474']As mentioned before, this map was only developed for a one off community event so what happens to it after that we haven't made our minds up about that quite yet but in order for PR to have a "official snow map", we would need to do lots of work with crating lots of new materials, sounds, effects, textures etc that would take a lot of our workforce a lot of time to complete, this map is a simple knock up right now :)
and for your "snow forts":

You know I had a idea to expand the original BF2 scenario and with the Chinese invasion of Alaska have the Canadians fight China as Armored fury was only like a few maps and obviously in real life if that happened Canada would be right there helping us out if it was a matter of our North American security :)

If I ever can get support/mapping experience could be a possibility.

Rhino, that vid is a total win

By the way, I like the snow houses idea for FOBs (XD) and you could add snowballs to the unarmed kit... (or SWAP kit)

But anyways I've heard that Op Snow Storm was so quickly "thrown together" that it didn't have much appeal to it, apart from the snow. Does it even come in PR.91?

I wouldn't say that many people enjoyed the map, you just needed to play it on a full packed server otherwise it was too large for a few players which after the event itself it was hard to fill a server fully with the map. And no its not compatible with .9

would be nice to have another event with it though Rhino :)

Yeah I think I had a round on TG fully packed. It was caracterized as "Kashan" or "Qinglin" on snow.
