Deploying deployables

I am tired of being crushed by these things, can you just have the deployable stuff spawn at your feet like a rally point? Or maybe make deployables sticky so they go where you put them and don't slide around? (If you watch when you deploy something there is a white dot indicating where it will appear and it slides and bounces around on even the tiniest slope)

True, and I agree... why do the deployables fall from the sky rather than just "showing up" like rallys?

i think it is like that to prevent exploiting

If they just appeared (like rallypoints) you could set them inside buildings. If we have them spawn on you like rally points you would be killed.

I think this is an example of where you need to learn to work with the system rather than make the system work for you, just put a marker 5m in front of you, thats the first place teh deployable will appear, think what obstructions there are to its placement, if there are none then think about the terrain, if the slope is smooth, then there isn't much possibility of the deployable working, if its flat it has a good chance, but you can kind of catch the deployable in little ruts which works well also.

Fungwu have point. Have to say there are some really annoying outcomes while building assets.

Already they are killing me and ratio is like 3 out of 10 deploys. And if they are not killing for sure they are come out at absurd places. I'm not talking about small building rooms or roof tops. I remember a Beirut map. We tried to build an FOB in a backyard but stubbornly it comes out in the middle of the main road. (Like 15 m. away from where I wanted) Destroyed and tried 3 more times but nothing changed.

Standard Fob Building procedure:

1. Yell to all squad mates in squad voip "I'MA GUNNA TK WITH MAH FB, GET OUTTA THE WAY!!!!!!!1!!11"

2. Get out your phone and deploy said FB, and for further protection against tk yell in squad voip "IT'SA DEPLOYING, GET OUTTA THE WAY!!!!!!!!1!!!one!"

3. Run like hell and don't stop until you feel it being place or the message says you fail, if it fails, repeat from step one.

PS: It doesn't hurt to yell the same squad voip message over team chat to let all your team mates know they're going to end up getting TK'd from the FB anyways.

Quoted for truth.

It's been a while since I have seen anyone take damage from a deployment because everone now has the common sense to book it when those things are going up

LOL..can't be said better. But I think you forgot one last step.

4.If you are lucky enough and FB comes out at the right place and looking right way you wanted (oh what a miracle) its time to yell back to squad members "OK GUYS... NOW COME BACK AND DIG THAT THING BEFORE IT XPLODES!!!!"

As a funny aside:

Last night I saw a friendly squad leader with his radio out and of course I gave him a wide berth, but then an enemy came around the corner and I had to run back the way I came to avoid being shot, of course I was instantly killed by a TOW falling on my head :-)

Rudd, I am a long time player and of course I try my best to make deployables work as is, and I think they are one part of what makes this game the best out there, but I think there is a lot of room for improvement.

Jonny, That sounds pretty feasible, (of course my knowledge of coding is ~0) hopefully someone inspired can try coding it.

Before any 'Gergian Conflict' devs start shouting "OMG you can't steal our code!!!" I believe the same thing happens when vehicles spawn in vBF2. The game shifts the player slightly out the way of the incoming object.

Is this possible with PR deployables?

If this is true - stop placing FBs mate, you're not very good at it ;)

I rarely see anyone killed by a FB when it wasn't their fault, and while I do sometimes see FBs go in weird places, it's usually because the SL is trying to place it somewhere where there's not enough room for it.

smeg, I think that issue there has already been addressed, you'd be able to put the stuff inside buildings.

Maybe teh solution to everyones problems is to have the object spawn 10m in front of you instead of 5.

so beautiful and functional.

It looks, however, like everything is insta-deployed. No digging.

yeah thats the problem... you need a special proficiency to build FOB. Sorry that what ever you think I'll keep putting them because there are still not enough people building them in maps. And guess why is that because? ;)

How do you manage to kill yourself with an asset? Here's all you have to do:

Make sure there's about 10m of open terrain in front of you, 8-10m wide.

Tell people not to stand in front of you.

Stand still and deploy the asset.

This is not rocket science, what the hell are you people doing when placing them?

Bumping with suggestion - would it be possible to have a smoke grenade pop up wherever the game decides to dump a deployable and then have the deployable appear X seconds later? I'm pretty sure crushing casualties would hit zero with this set up - if possible - and if somebody did get crushed, it'd almost certainly be their own fault.

Having read the FOB progress bar thread, I do understand how deployables "construction" works, and I don't think this would be impossible to code.
