I'm running 32 bit Vista, and my HD has recently been de-fragged if it helps. I know I can run PR as I've had it installed before, but haven't patched it since 0.87.

Anywho, what happens is I click on the part one or two setup, i will see a command prompt window open and close very quickly, and then nothing will happen. I've heard that it sometimes take a while for it to start, but After several hours, and not seeing any processes in my task manager that I can link to PR, i don't think it is doing anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I seem to have the same problem, only on Win 7. I can see the process for the installer, but nothing else happens. ??:

My PR2 would start then a black screen like if it's going to the splash screen, then it cuts back to the desktop and then......silence, nothing. Same thing is happening with regular BF2 when starting. I just reinstalled Win 7 with a new OS with 64bit on my computer. It's running ArmA2 perfectly. I am downloading 1.41 of the BF2 patch, I tried to install the 1.50 patch and it said I had a newer version and it quit.

Well, I seem to have managed to solve my problem. It would appear there is something wrong with the fileplanet download. I downloaded the Bit Torrent version and it worked.

If 1.5 patch says you already have a newer version installed, then your BF2 setup is somehow messed up. I suggest you uninstall it and manually delete the original install folder to make sure no residues are left and then reinstall everything using installers.

Run all the installers without any compatibility tweaks and you're fine (I've got Win7x64 too).

1. Install BF2

   BF2:SF Expansion | --- If you have BF2:SF, here is where it should be installed.

2. Install Battlefield 2 v1.41
3. Install Battlefield 2 v1.5
4. Install the latest PR Build (I suggest using 0.91 full installer, parts 1 & 2)
5. Install PunkBuster system service
6. Update PunkBuster
7. Start regular BF2 once and retrieve or create your profile(s) before starting PR

If you are going to keep UAC on (which you should do, IMO) then you need to give your user account read and write permissions to your BF2 install folder's mods subfolder or run pr.exe with administrator privileges.

If this won't help we might have to do some open heart surgery with your Windows' registry to make sure there is no corrupted information left about BF2.

For a complete uninstall, I recommend Revo uninstaller. It will use the programs unistaller, and then search your computer and registry for left over files and delete them.
