so either im too stupid, or just can make a poll, but this needs to be discussed
The Wrench, and in turn, the entire Combat Engineer kit.
Currently, the wrench can build assets without the cloud of smoke produced by the shovel. it can also clear mines/IEDs ect. as pointed out by "Famous Last Words" no one sees the mines in time to stop, and no one EVER sees the IEDs. even if the mine or IED is spotted, people just avoid it instead of clearing it. the lets face it, its pointless, thus making the combat engineer pointless. the engineers greatist strenght was that you could run a logistics squad and help build the assets you deployed. with the new radio, you have to be an officer to deploy assets.
so what do we do?
Keep It?
Remove It?
Replace It?(explain below)

Should definitely be replaced with a Delta Force operator.
Heh, no, the kit should be returned its ability to build. I say give them a radio if its inventory isn't already full.

Replace it with a roll of duct tape, and give it the ability to fix things again, albeit slower than the repair station. Since you have to be a crewman to ride in the .50 up top of a tank, you won't have them hopping out to make emergency repairs mid-tank fight, like you used to. As for APC's/IFV's, most vehicle fights involving them are over so fast that the wrench wouldn't make a difference. It would be ideal in situations where like you drive your humvee out of an ambush, find a safe place to hide, and make some emergency repairs, without having to risk a logistics truck.

Since you have to be a crewman to ride in the .50 up top of a tank
by the by, thats something that needs to be re-examined imo, especially for certain vehicles like the Merkava.
re IEDs, some kind of timed explosive that destroys mines, IEDs and grenade traps would be the most realistic way to go?
the CE is a bit lost in the desert atm, a revamp would be a good idea.

I say we let them repair HMV's at least. BUt...
Best option would be for the combat eng's ability to use the wrench for an extended amount of time (2min of str8 wrench work) in order to "armor up" the HMV.
It could also be a another benefit besides more armor. Speed boost? Two extra passengers? Ability to request kits from it?
This would also make the HMV alot more versatile to fill in different roles, as their real life counterparts are. Hell, we can even give one hmv the ability to detonate mines 20m away or something (but the ability charges like sprint (1:30min times)

could even make a chaplain kit thats able to 'bless' vehicles, these vehicles would be able to resurrect themselves for 10mins after being blessed.

That's a great idea. Maybe lets add monks as a counterpart to the civilian collaborators. He will be able to hit the unbelievers with a cross and inspire nearby believers to fight even harder!

it would actually be interesting to see the specialists with a new model instead of the wrench. something like an explosive cord or similar that is used for mine demolition in reality.
not sure what slot it should take, but would be much more realistic than having one combat engineer running around the map IMHO. although that takes extra work etc etc.

There should be engineer on ly maps like Kashan desert. Engineer should have other tools to repair vehicles, wrench should be removed.

should be replaced with a dude who's speciallity is to disarm bombs .... with his suit

CE used to be my favourite class, but with the inability to repair vehicles and bridges, it very quickly lost it's appeal.
Granted I can place down 20 mines; but most of those either result in TKs, or I only get 7 plonked down before I get shot dead. What a waste of my time that was.

You can still repair Humvees, trucks and other soft skin vehicles.
You cannot wrench IEDs.
You cannot wrench a lot of the deployable stuff, you can wrench wire though.

he should be given a special CE radio, that can direct soldiers to mines and booby traps, like the SL's but more specific, like grenade trap here pipebomb there, artillery ied over there etc. i also thing .50 mgs should be able to destroy ieds, but that doesnt really relate here
