Get your speed to 0, or as close as possible and level out the heli. It's that simple, it just takes a little practice.

You can never quite get your helicopter level so that it'll stay still when you let go of the mouse, so you constantly have to make adjustments. I just wish PR had Auto-Hover mode from Arma 2.

Probably easiest way to explain is that just dont press "W"-key at all, and simply tilt your helicopter so that its in perfect balance, its easier if you drop down your speed to 0 before you try. When you get to perfect balance you will lose some of the altitude all the time so you have to use "W" from time to time to get back up, but its better to press "W" longer at once, instead of little all the time because every time you press it you lose some of your balance and if you are attack chopper pilot, every time you press "W" when hovering you make it harder for your gunner to hit the target.

Actually, you can get into a perfect hover...

Don't touch the W button, reduce your speed to almost 0 then adjust it until you are at the 0 and then press CTRL to disable all control axes!

Just easy as hell, but honestly why do you want to hover with a Transport chopper, it's kinda suicide on a filled server ^^

cool, never tried holding the look/ctrl button while hovering

you have more control hovering while dropping troops than if you touch down on uneven ground which makes the chopper tilt.

yeah, i've seen cobra pilots above the carrier looking like a sticker on my monitor. i imagine them using a joystick for the throttle so they don't have to tap W.

Fire up a local server > practice

At the end of the day it is something that must be learnt through practice and patience.

Also if you have a joystick availiable then you should use it, give better control when you get used to it :)

Oh and don't use the keyboard only for control, use either your mouse or a joystick. Only in the last couple of months have I bothered starting to learn how to fly with a mouse (usually just an infantry whore) and it is a hell of a lot smoother and easier than keyboard only ever was.

I've witnessed keyboard+mouse pilots getting a better hover than many people using a joystick. Aaron, Nickbond, Kanito and Fizzco from the top of my head.

I've always found that you can't just stick with leaving 'W' because you slowly lose altitude, I continually tap 'w' carefully to keep it absolutely still in the air, it means you can get a bit closer to the ground and keep the tracks touching uneven terrain without rolling.

my experience to is that a mouse is much better then joystick, but thats me. also using ctrl as gandalf said is very useful.

I have a joystick but rarely use it with choppers because keyboard only suits me better. And it's ridiculously easy to hover with using only keyboard: Don't touch WSAD at all and just use arrows to adjust your speed.

pfft wattt?! i can easily get into a perfect hover with keyboard controls, and find keyboard to be alot more responsive than the mouse
