i dont think My Lai(4) would be a great map for a battle more in the lines of the non U.S team have the choice of old man, old woman, woman or child with no weapons and have to hide. meanwhile the U.S have to kill at least 300 civilions before they can break for lunch.

sorry my cynical head is on tonight but My Lai is probably americas darkest moment of the last century.
but tet in saigon near the embassy and hue is fine and a given i would asume.

to be honest most of the most brutal battles and firefights where map co-ordinates in the ridges, hills and valleys of vietnam.

My Lai(4) was just a ville like all others. the villagers no doubt was vietcong sympathetic by force or idealogy doesnt really matter. the vietcong in that area was small and never engaged the americal unit with anything other than booby traps .

the unit which went into My Lai(4) had lost almost all its casualties to traps. they where royaly p***ed off and fustrated and where told there was going to be a big fight in the ville.
the rest is history.

the vietcong and nva both used villages to ambush the americans becuase they couldnt use their artillary within a 1000 metres of civilion property and airstrikes had to autherized through several channels upto the south vietnamese goverment official.

there where many village firefights which can be done but My Lai should be best left.

as for the beach invasion with the marines in 65 i am sorry to say once again and be boreing but they landed to a crowd of photograhers and young ladies putting flower rings on them as saveing heroes. it was all for the folks back home and probably the only good day they had in vietnam

sorry for being boreing

"early sea landing" - do you mean Operation Starlite? that'd be pretty goddamn freakin sick. think on the scale of gaza beach...stop it i'm gettin goosebumps haha

op starlight would work for sure i forgot about that.
for the sake of the effort modelling the marines landing craft i would have thought it would be better to focus on the mekong riverine forces ATC landing craft as they where used on operations all the time to ferry troops to landing areas to stage patrols.

yeah too true, plus that and we don't have a ch34 model unless we rob it from EOD. likewise with the m47/8.

I'd like more heli maps/game play than EOD2 had.

I think there were problems with helis in early releases that made them horrible to fly. But the maps did not promote helis enough. When I played I was usually disappointed with maps in rotation for these reasons.

A map that the US can only attack with heli would be nice.

e.g. Put a no go zone between sides. Have LZs near objectives but with heavy AA. Have really remote LZs that has no AA. Troops would have to slog and capture/destroy AA at objectives for any hope. Have good ambush points (maybe spawn points) for VC along route.

i agree about the helicopters and that most maps should mainly be helicopters only. i dont think lzs should have fixed aa but the vc/nva should be able to have time at the start of the round say the commander can place a set a few tempory spawn points at what ever position he feels e.g landing zones and put bunkers and 12.7mm hmg positions available. that way there will always be the excited feeling as you ride in hot lz or cold.
even better would be as i stated on another post the commander of the us can decide to prep the lz with artillary or save it for later.

Yes to that. You just summed up the Vietnam experience!

it is definatly a key part of when i do vietnam wargames. the players choose their lz's what order the men are in helicopters pre airstrikes and artillary and gunship runs are all planned and the hope is its a coild lz everytime.

a cold lz

and a hot lz

while i am at it here is a pic of the whole infantry company popping white smoke for the FAC to see the friendly lines dureing a firefight

My point with this is if this is the vision of the developers then it would be well worth slowing the start of the round and raise the levels of excitement to the players playing grunts as they wait to be taken to the chosen lz. have the vietcong team put valuable bunkers and aamg's near the lz?, has the commander planned to prep the landing zone enough?. it all adds to the tension and will help make a more coordinated start to the game. maybe

i think the pr community have proved there maturity and patience and have valued what the slower game can be. i for one would love it

I want Maps with small valleys, where you have only one road and one Main with some hueys, and having the vietcong trying to overrun you over and over again. Kinda like korengal valley, but with the Main base as the highest point, the BLUFOR having hueys and more a jungle look.

That is amazing if you made that, chagadiel, it looks amazing.

On topic: I think a massive sea operation would be amazing.

I've made one just for my friends sorta like Kriegsspiel except with more "modern units" and they're made out of wooden blocks. Wish I had money for all those figurines :(

The guy requests a style of map and you think he should begin mapping... get a grip mate he is only saying what he would like sure he could have worded it a little better but no need to get like that with him.
