Ghosts of the Western Desert

Strange bugs sometimes, in this game.

Last night I was in an insurgent force engaging the US
near the most South Western corner of Karbala. The US
destroyed the cache and we successfully kept some of them hanging
around for another half hour or so. A little bird was shot down
by an RPG.

There was a helicopter sound bug. I went over to check it out and
noticed (where I assume the chopper had been downed) a US kit
(which I couldn't pick up) diagonally embedded in the ground.
I originally came over to check because the helicopter engines had
stopped and started again as though someone got out and back in again.
No big deal.

So - I move out north by northwest across the desert towards
action and I notice strange noises at an oil derrick. Like truck noises
at an oil pumping rig. I walked a bit further north and then headed
towards the complex in B5/B6 (-ish) and the sound of a truck (logi/troop)
came across the desert to me, passed me and then stopped, still running.
OK, strange. Then, the engine stopped briefly and then started again
- with a puff of exhaust smoke and everything. Investigating the spot
found nothing strange except the sound.

Walked further East towards the B5/B6 complex and came across
a HWMMV revving (invisibly) in the last couple of hundred feet before
the complex. Nothing there - just a local auditory hallucination.

It makes you wonder how many of these things may be going on at times
and what other hidden processes may be going on in PR. It can't
bode well for server or local machine in-game optimisation.

I had the kit issue before. It was an exploded british jeep and the kits of the guys that got killed inside were visible but it was not possible to pick them up.

Never had that sound think you were talking about though.

perhaps these sounds are from vehicles in other areas of the map, maybe far from where you were. And the sounds are bugged and appear to be close to you. Kinda like the chopper sound bug.

It was my squad which destroyed the cache and was sittng there for a bit while our Stryker got repairs, but I did see some weird stuff that round, quite a few sound bugs especially with logi trucks, ignored them though.

Honestly Karbala gives me the creeps. Theres something about it that really sends shivers down my spine, too open and when you see something move and go to investigate it...there is nothing there :? ??:

I think its the immersion and the time people spend gaming, that allows for this to happend.

I mean Bf2 was probably intended for half and hour and hour game play then new map/round.

We play for 3-4 hours on one map, where we dont have constant action.

Alot more immersion, and more chances of bugs because of long time strain.

But i must agree, due to PR being so how to say, immersive to me, i get freaked out sometimes to, its like your gut tells you "Your gonna get ambushed, Your gonna get killer, your squad is gonna die"

And then BANG! and you jump from your chair :D

That sound of the TOW or HAT just before it hits your tank/APC is the worst. That split second when you go 'aww SHIIIIII-' :)
