RPGs and helos

I kinda think the Rpg is too weak against helicopters. I mean if it takes 2 shots to take out an APC surley it should take 1 shot for helicopters. But whn helis like black hawks and chinnioks get hit they dont teven smoke. Yesterday I took a shot at a LB it was a very good shot i was in disblef that i hit it as it is very very hard to hit a helicoper with an RPG. The Lb then could just about make it back too main. Its avery delicate helicopter really should of gone down intanly

I've shot down a littlebird with an RPG before. Hell, I've shot a blackhawk down too.


Perhaps post a video? I've done my fair share of work with the RPG vs helos.. and only vary rarely will it not go down.

Hitting it in the face, rotor or tail is best, center is just an easier shot.

you could try using an SA-7.

I obviusly use the SA7 its just when i pcik up an rpg i shoot a heli it dosent go down at once

I love to wait somewhere in the city of Ramiel or Karbala with my RPG for the enemy LBs or Blackhawks to make only a single mistake, then they're history. > :D

Witch one good placed hit you can destroy the BH and LB, if you don't hit them so good (mostly hitting the rear rotor) they are disabled and go down.

It doesn't take 2 shots and they can't make it back to main when I attack them.

I shot down a BH with an RPG two days ago, didn't aim anywhere special.

probably what happened was that your hit didn't register or something.

I took down a black hawk that was hovering about 200m above me on Ramiel in early 0.9

Straight up with an RPG-7, all of the guys jumped out and went splat.

all this talk of shooting down black hawks with an rpg, you outta be ashamed of yourselves :razz:

i've tried many-a-time to shoot down a helicopter on Ramiel when i've had to play as a real bad insurgent, but no joy. must be a skill i guess :-|

i hit the chinook the other day 3 times in the same round with an rpg and not once did it even smoke so there is no way all 3 didnt register, people seen it and were like wtf ?

Chinooks have the higest health of any helicopter intake because of their size makes them so easy to hit but it is mostly all empy space, just two shhets of aluminum. You can shoot it. Up but nothin of value may be lost.

I'll try and find it again, but it was definately in this forum and in the news about this U.S pilot who's Blackhawk (I think may have been chinook) got shot right in the nose with an RPG killing the co-pilot whilst dropping troops and still made it back to base... some of these helos are pretty beast :P

i think the chinook has a bit to much HP, a friend and me set up a trap for this chinook that had droped off 2 loads of troops in the same spot it consisted of 4 claymore mines and a ardy IED he comes back lands inf hops out BOOM gos the claymores infs dead BOOM gos the ardy IED AWAY flys the chinook smoking like a beast but it makes it back to main

Lol how did you lure him to fly on you IED?

You hit an LB with an RPG and it didn't die? Yeah, something abnormal there, fo' sho', probably like what Rudd was suggesting.

Yeah but if I remember correctly the pilot and helicopter only survived because the rpg didn't go off.

It is not just the RPGs.

I have shot U.S. marine's Huey a couple times with PF-89 and the most damage I did in one shot was a shot into the passenger compartment (all the passenger died, huey smoked, but flew away...).

The helos do take damage.
But if they were just one shot and splash-down...the game would get very boring.
On some maps where helos are present, such as a Muttrah, the game would be very boring if all helos were one-shot kills.
No one would be able to leave the ship if the Armor is in the city and the boats were on the sea-walls.

Just because you dont always see the smoke animation doesnt mean you didnt knock the piss out of it!
Ive been in many a struck helo that limped RTB with the alarms going off!

That article makes several claims that are blatantly untrue and others that are overly optimistic and pointless.

1. It says that reloading an RPG takes a minute. In fact, most sources state between 4 and 6 can be fire in that time. Ahoy

2. It gives stats for a tandem warhead as if one has ever been or would ever be shot at aircraft (the stats are also wrong, 750 behind ERA when most sources state between 600-700)

3. It talks about Mogadishu and then says that shooting down a helicopter with one would require a direct hit. Most believe that not one RPG round actually hit a blackhawk during the Mogadishu incident. They were rigged to airburst and the sheer volume of them fired that day is what brought the blackhawks down.

That said, I've brought BH's down in-game with one RPG too :)
