Hello, I'm buying BF2 soon and I wonder if I can run PR on it, even if I have to use all settings on low, however, with a playable FPS rate. My specs are:

• Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7300 @ 2.66GHz
• 3 GB of RAM
• Intel(R) GMA 3100 (onboard video card, 256 MB of video RAM)
• Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (build 2600)

Well, I know it's not the best computer and the video card sucks, but I think I'll be able to run BF2 faily smooth, but how about PR?

Not sure. Those Intel Graphic Processors usually can't play games due to Pixel Shader Limits

Looking up the chipset on wikipedia Intel GMA - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - It has Dx9c support and pixel shader 3.0 so you should be fine. A memory bandwidth of 12.8/17GB/s isn't too bad either. I would guess it'll manage low, certainly on bf2, probably on PR. If you hadn't already found out intel graphics drivers are appalling so be prepared for some glitches/buggy behaviour.

Something worthy of note about the 3100 chipset, wikipedia states that it lacks hardware accelerated vertex shaders, I guess it could be the source of some problems, slow-downs. The graphics memory will probably be a bit of a limit too.

If all else fails, you'll have a pci-e slot so you could get a cheapish graphics card. Perhaps something like the 9600gt (£65) which is apparently very good, and probably wouldn't require any other components to be upgraded. Either that or an ATI equivalent.

Tom's hardware thread, looks like some people have managed to play bf2 on integrated graphics.

Oh well, here are some of the results from "Can you run it?". Yeah, the problem is my video card, it doesn't have Hardware T&L and it's Vertex Shader version is 0.





Erhm, so ... will it run? If not, I think I'll look for an average video card, like Penguin said, but I don't understand a lot of computers, maybe I'll need to change my power supply too if I get a new video card ... let's see when I get BF2.

A lot of mid-range graphics cards don't need any power connectors. The PCI-e slot provides something like 75W. Provided your PSU is good quality, or has plenty of spare Wattage you may be alright.

It'll be worth trying the integrated anywho, If you did need a better graphics card you won't need to shell out much $$$ to get it running nicely.

I have similar specs like that. I got into control panel went to system, look for the advanced tab go to settings for performance and there it should lead you to the Visual Effects settings and all you need to do Adjust for best performance. I'm not exactly sure if this works for everyone but it helped me put some settings into medium without experiencing alot of lag in PR.
