System lockup requiring manual reset only in PR

As of this thread:
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f200-p ... ockup.html
Which is now locked.
I have exactly those symptoms, i play for random amounts of time, game is running very smoothe and then all of a sudden, it freezes, looping last few seconds of sound, alt + tab etc do nothing and all i can do is a system reset, this is EXTREMELY annoying.
My system specs:
Intel core 2 quad Q8200 running @ 3ghz.
4GB DDR2-1000 GSKILL Ram.
IceQ 4 turbo Radeon HD4850 512mb.
Asus P5Q motherboard.
What i have tried to fix:
- Reinstall of graphics drivers.
- Changing ingame graphic settings alot.
- Tried every possible setting of audio ingame.
- Tried uninstalling soundcard and using onboard.
- Tried returning my CPU to stock clock settings.
- Tried reinstalling BF2 and PR nice and clean reinstall.
- Tried reinstalling sound card with new drivers.
- Reconnecting every cord inside.
- Reconnecting every component inside.
Probably some other stuff i have not remembered as well.
I will try to reinstall Windows 7 on a new hard drive soon.
Any one have experience with this kind of problem?

hmm had a problem like this couple months back with other games, you pc isnt overheating is it? Make sure your fan/cooling system is working. Thats all I can think of.

I dont think so as it happens on low GFX as well, it also happens in vanilla. My pc doesnt freeze up or anything with other games which are more intensive (BFBC2, crysis etc).

Use a tool like "speedfan" to check your temperatures.
Does this happen when running PR in windowed mode, as well?
Try running "Windows memory diagnostics" tool and/or memtest from a linux live cd to make sure your ram is ok.
Did you try with lowering CCC settings too? Turn off AA and AF in BF2 and CCC.

CCC settings are set to "use application settings", i tried running PR in windowed mode but the "join game" button doesnt show up after loading and it wont go in automatically. I tried all different ram combinations which didnt help and i reinstalled windows on a new hdd which didnt work either. Also, i checked temperatures and they are normal, which is to be expected since as my pc can run games like crysis on high with no problems.
Im puzzled here.

Someone had a very similar issue the other day and asked me on TS [pretty sure it was
Kushluk]. After asking some troubleshooting questions, I came to the logical conclusion that their sound card was not compatible with win7+something that PR does.
If you have a USB headset by chance, try disabling your onboard sound card in the BIOS (or PCI based one if you have one), and play PR without that sound card for a while. The USB headset will allow you to have sound with no interaction with your soundcard, but that's only if you have one.
It fixed the person's problem right away
* I very much doubt it is overheating and the usual crud that people spout when they suggest trouble shooting. It has been many years since components have force-shutdown hardware, almost every component will now throttle their clocks&volts to immediately reduce power consumption and thus heat output if they start to reach their TMAX. "My monitor has blue, red and black pixels all over it..." "
Sounds like your ram is failing, go buy some more" *sigh*

I had similar problems with many games when using a Realtek onboard sound driver. And a Creative Soundblaster. My TitaniumXfi is fine though.

Im reasonably sure i have fixed the problem, i installed the soundcard and DISABLED realtek in the BIOS. Seems good now, but i need to do some more playing to be sure.

I've been playing with the same system without any problems until recently. I haven't done any changes to the system so the sound issue seems unlikely since it worked fine before.
Any other speculations to why this freezing problem has occurred?

I had the same problem.....I was getting md5 errors, freezing and graphic anomalous.... Ironically I had BFBC2 Installed and I had "0" problems and an average FPS of about 35 to 45.
YouTube - BFBC2 FPS with the exception of the rare CTD. I ended up Installing win xp and some of the problems went away. I was still getting the random CTD and graphic anomalous until I updated my video card drivers. That was on 7/19/10. As of now I have not had any problems with the game. One thing I discovered is that you need to make sure you have the latest .Net framework Installed. I can't verify this to be a fix because I am not an engineer or Dev. I use this program to lessen the load on my pc as well
Game Booster | Fast Game Accelerator | Free Accelerator Does it help? I don't know for sure. I had my cpu overcocked as well and turned that off. I Increased the page file use up to 7 gigs. and set the textures in the game to medium, actually all the setting are on medium. I just have to say that The mod is so good, But I wish they would change some of the aspects of the sniper kit

Until you isolate the sound issue (aka confirm that it is or is not causing it), I unfortunately cannot move on to further trouble shooting. I am currently helping a forum member with the exact same issue in Australia, and he also is reluctant to play without sound for an extended period... so until it is ruled in or out, I don't bother progressing with my troubleshooting because it seems like my advice will be disregarded.

Seems i forgot to update.
I have FIXED the problem throughout all games in which i have this error (bf2, bc2, pr, cod4 etc)
I had to disable realtek in the BIOS and install a soundcard... realtek had to be disabled in bios for it to stop this freezing problem.
Running smoothly now

ok i disabled the sounddrivers and tried to play, still got the freezing efter a few minutes of gameplay.
It's only PR that freezes for me, anything else i run works fine.
So reinstalled both bf2 and PR to see íf its something there, but i still have the same problem.
Mighty strange if you ask me.

I have the same issue running XP. Hope we can find a solution. Anyone I come across with this problem is still having it and hasn't found a solution.
