Joysticks, is there any point ?

Since 1.5, my joystick has only one working axis making it pretty useless. When flying do people mainly use the mouse and keyboard ? I was going to buy the speedlink black wido flighstick(my old logitech broke) but then rembered 1.5. I have tried a keylogger program but its not as good as before.
So should I just use a good mouse + keyboard ?

Its a bug that your Joystick doesnt work the right way, you have to delete all Falcon Commands then it should work, i had the same problem a while ago, i used a Logitech now i use a Thrustmaster, both work.

99% of joysticks work with BF2. Buy a Saitek Stick if you want a good quality one which wont brake
Make sure you also program your Joystick axis in the secondary field and also you will need to reprogram your joystick after 1.5 patch.

yeah I tried all of that , deleting falcon settings, putting joystick settings in the secondary bit.
What do you mean by "reprogram joystick after 1.5" ?

just putting in the controls into your control options again
Have you tried reinstalling and also cleaning your profile?

but would I not have to reinstall patch 1.5 aswell? it kind of defeats the point.

not if there is something screwed up with your installation it aint. But I would try clearing your profile first and redoing your controls from scratch

open my docs, go into the BF2 folder, profile folder, should be a folder called "001", "002" etc, in each folder go in and delete the "controls.con" (back it up first just encase) and then reload bf2.

Flying jets with a joystick is a night and day difference between flying with a mouse and keyboard. Your range of motion is severely limited with a mouse, with a joystick you can do things like barrel rolls and loops etc that to my knowledge are not possible with a mouse, not to mention if you have a joystick with a throttle control you have much more control over that too. Trust me, if you have a joystick use that for flying jets you will be a million times more effective.
As for choppers, I cant fly to save my life with a joystick. for choppers i use my mouse, its strange but to me it feels so much better.

But i do use keyboard for the rest of the flying. I have myself a controller as well, but i haven't gotten used to it so its much more worser. But it does work.
I was that way for a long time too, however I think mouse and keyboard flyers are at a real disadvantage against enemy jets that use joysticks due to the greater manueverability you can achieve with a joystick. I mean, just try going upside down with a mouse, Im pretty sure it cant be done.

I have Logitech Attack 3. Decent joystick with software that allows you to change sensitivity etc. Some ppl I know are using pads (like Xbox or PS3 like) to fly both planes and helis.

Mouse and key is a must for chopper flying imo, jet flying is doable with a mouse but you can achieve better results if you tune your joystick well enough.

for sensitive manouvres a mous is better imo, but for big evasive manouvres etc joystick wins.

i just use pure keyboard all the time
works pretty well, recently got some pedals which are just epic for power control!

Why did nobody inform me of these pedals

well, i fly stick with a little keyboard help, dying breed apearantly, there is a reason that there isnt a mouse and keyboard in real planes and choppers. I think that especially with throttle control you can fly more easy.
Example, when in apache I can set throttle control to hover and go up and down with keyboard buttons. in a jet, its joystick only you just try and move your mouse as fast as i can with joystick. but then real dogfights that last longer then 5 seconds are scarse in PR. usually its missile lock and boom lol

I tested flying with joystick/mouse in both vanilla nd pr yesterday.
untill now, i always played with mouse in helis and keyboard only in jets.
my review:
PR:
Jet:
-With mouse very annoying cause of the big curves you have to fly, but precise.
-With joystick very comfortable, accurate
-With keyboard a bit unprecise control and laggy, but comfortable and accurate in gun strafes.
Heli:
-with mouse VERY accurate in both control and attacking, very comfortable
-with joystick very uncomfortable, continious cerrection necessary, hovering nearly impossible.
- not played with keyboard
vanilla:
Jet:
-with mouse very accurate in bombing/gun strafes but too slow for dogfights
-with joystick very comfortable but inaccurate in attacking and dogfights
-with keyboard very comfortable, accurate with a bit training, fast turns possible (imo the only way to make turns without roll your jet)
Heli:
-with mouse VERY accurate in both control and attacking, very comfortable, fast maneuvres possible
-with joystick just annoyingly hasty, not as fast as mouse
-with keyboard too slow for flying....
=> still prefer mouse for helis and starting to exercise with mouse in jets for vanilla and with joystick in jets for PR (but think i stick with keyboard for PR, because i dont want to change controls all the day)
