Can't map a series please help

Hey guys need some help here....

I've been playing FPS for along time....Long time so I'm set in my ways and mappings.

I use Rmouse button to move forward and ASD left back right respectively. Problem is in PR and BF2 settings If I map forward to Mouse1 and try to map back to S it will clear the entry i.e. I set forward to mouse1 my back mapping goes blank. If I map S for back my mapping of mouse1 for forwards goes blank. I had a friend try on his machine and same thing so I know this is recreatable.

Can any of the devs or mods try this out and confirm.

Thanks in advance

This is purely my deduction without any testing or better knowledge.

It might happen because BF2 can be controlled with game controllers that have analog axis, like joysticks and some pads. These axis usually perform two actions, one for positive values and second for negative values and the zero/idle being in the middle of those. The actions performed are opposites of each other, like accelerate/brake, ascend/descent, roll left/right, etc. So when one part of this pair of actions is mapped to either positive or negative axis values, the other part of the same action gets automatically mapped to the remaining portion of the same axis.

BF2 might consider keyboard keys as one axis and mouse buttons as a totally different axis so that you can map forward/back to keyboard only or to mouse buttons only.

However, because BF2 can have two mappings per single action, you could try to map forward movement to the first colum (primary mapping) and backward movement to the second column (secondary mapping).

An another way could be manually editing controls.con file.

there is some merit to what you suggest. If I map forward to mouse1 (rmousebuttone) and backward to mouse3 (thumbbutton) the settings take. But like previously stated I cannot map one to the mouse and the other to keyboard. I have never played a game where I could NOT do this, It will either A. take me awhile to get use to this or B. Drive me crazy and just shelve this game all together.

My gaming organization is playing this mod again and I would love to participate but this is a HUGE detractor for me, I have been doing FPS games with this layout for more than 15 years. I don't know if I can teach this old dog new tricks. :?

Did you try using both primary and secodary mapping like I told above? First one for forward, second for backward?

For example, check this random screenshot from unmodded BF2. Note the 'Primary' and 'Secondary' columns for each action. You should be able to map your mouse button to the first column and S key to the second column:
