Hello . I would like to upgrade my current PC to be able to run arma 2 on high graphics does not need to be highest but atlest look nice and have low or atlest minemal lag.I do not know much about pc bulding

. My current buget is around 800 dollers.
My current pc is a dell inspiron from 2007 that has been made for gaming.its not that good though. Most PR city levals and new maps lag extremly on high graphics.
Its specs are
Intel Core 2 duo cpu 2.33ghz
2.00 GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT
Thats all i think needs upgrading but im probably wrong
Thank you in advance

Any Core 2 quad (check that your motherboard/PC supports quad core cpu)
+
Radeon 5850 and you're good to go.
For BF2

R just the card alone is enough, but Arma 2 is a lot more cpu intense.

I would highly suggest more RAM also, as it is the cheapest way to upgrade your computer.
try for 4gb, but first I need to know more about it.
I would like you to get a tool called "CPU-Z" which displays information about your processor/mobo/RAM.
CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting
Once you open it give me a screenshot of the "Memory"
Also something else to think about, I'm going to assume you have two sticks of RAM where each is 1gb.
But if that isn't the case and you only have one stick of 2gb, you could upgrade much cheaper.... If you have time you should open your case and look, or look at the SPD tab of CPU-Z and check the slots and see if it says 1 slot or 2 slots.

If its a dell inspiron then its DDR2 PC-5300 (667)
Also be careful with Dell mobos, they limit the bios to certain processor sometimes, and are usually capped at 4GB of ram.
You'll also need a New Powersupply as the dell 250w won't cut it for a Quad Core, 4GB or Ram and a 5850.

Thought i would need to get a new power supply,so what would you recommend?
Also i will check my ram type later since its late were i am.
Thank you both for helping

Like I said DDR2 667mhz. I have experience with dells Inspiron Series, They usually lock the bios so you can't upgrade past a dual core, and their Powersupplys couldn't handle a Quad Core + 4GB of Ram + HD 5850.
You should probably get a
Case $50
PowerSupply $75
Memory $100
Graphics Card $290
Motherboard $120
Processor $200
Total $835
Yes I know you want to upgrade, but if your spending $800 is pointless to stick with the old when you can afford the new. and If your unsure how to build a computer. Just ask someone for advice, Its really not that hard.

QFT.
Plus I figured it was DDR2, but never want to assume things.

Building a new PC seems as the best thing to do now.Thank you for putting the links to the parts and helping.
