PR changes vBF2 settings and AI

I've been playing some singleplayer vBF2 in the last few days and a little multiplayer BF2SF, as well.

I notice that since installing PR, my vBF2 and SF has been changed, mostly in ways that can't be reverted through in-game options:
  • Crosshair colour was changed in SP and MP (no big deal, and changeable in-game)
  • No more automatic reload when weapons run dry in SP and MP (I actually like this, keeps me in good habits)
  • AI commander does not provide supply crate upon player (as SL) request in SP (really annoys me)
  • AI commander does not provide artillery fire upon player request in SP
  • AI commander will not direct artillery fire at enemy player when attacking from unpathable locations in SP e.g. rope-access-only rooftops (another PR change I'm happy with)
I didn't think to test vehicle drops, but I imagine those are disabled as well.

My hope is that I can get in there and fix the "AI commander won't drop supplies" thing so I can rambo against the bots when I feel like it without having to TK for a medkit and ammo. I admit, I'm a little curious where these changes happen and if someone cares to explain the details, I'd be interested to learn. However, I can live without knowing why if I can still have my crates in vanilla SP.

Simple. Create another account just for PR. Use one account for BF2 and another for PR. Your settings will stay intact for each account.

ex:
DesmoLocke for PR
DesmoLocke44 for BF2

Thanks for the tip. Tried this just now, found that the cursor colour and auto-reload were reset (which can both be changed in-game via the options). However, the profile used does not affect the commander behaviours, which is what I'm most concerned with.

Does PR overwrite one of the vanilla AI files? Is there a file I can simply edit (or swap out for one from a fresh BF2 install), and then change back to play PR SP?

Commander AI was broken by DICE in the BF2 v1.5 patch, it's broken for BF2 and all expansions and mods. And unfortunately, there's nothing that can be done about it, and it's highly unlikely for DICE to release a patch to fix it :( .

As for the profile changes like cursor colour and auto-reload, as DesmoLocke suggested, use a different profile for PR. If you don't want to do this, you could set your profile General.con file to be read-only after you've configured your settings through BF2. Then, when PR sets the settings, it won't be saved to file and affect other mods.

Ahhhh. That explains it; I hadn't bothered updating to 1.5 until I wanted to get into PR, so I just assumed it was PR's fault and not 1.5's fault. Thanks for the answer, consider this one resolved.

Not that artillery breaks realism, but when I play vBF2 SP, I'm not playing for realism--I'm playing to have fun mowing down waves of mindless bots :P When I play PR, I get about as many kills with my epipen as I do with a rifle, so it's nice to be able to kill something every once in a while to remember that BF2 is a shooter 8)
