First I want to get everyone's take on the bayonet. I personally have never used it in combat and feel that it is really un-necessary. I wanted to suggest that maybe the first slot on regular kits be like the pilot but just have the soldier model have no weapon but make it appear like it is slung. Couldn't really find a better picture but this is kinda what I envisioned.

Locking as the thread title suggestion is already in-game (in 3p rather than 1p), whilst actually stowing your weapon onto a shoulder would use an additional weapon slot, and that is not something that can be spared. Bayonets have been talked about many times before. They are a realistic weapon and I have used mine many times in-game, search for melee and you'll find several threads about this.
