Problems installing/fixed

I have a windows 7 64bit system and when i downloaded the installation files it says,
"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you are running. Check your computer's system information to see if you need an x86 (32 bit) or x64 (64 bit) version of the program, then contact the software publisher."

Not sure if there is a 64 bit version install or whatever, couldn't find it on the site.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Run with compatibility mode and you should be fine. Or you can try running it as adminstrator. Or even try to install all from your windows update to keep you computer up to date. Tell me if the problem persists.

Okay. There doesn't appear to be a way to run the installer in compatibility mode, so i tried running BF2 in it but that hasn't helped. I believe my computer is up to date as well. Maybe I need to get a copy of XP or something and run the installer on that, switch back to Win7, then run it compatibility mode? And thanks for responding!

I have the same problem. Updates are current and installed, Compatibility modes tested so far are XP SP3, XP SP2.
Message still persists.
Trboubleshooting compatibility via 7's built in function doesn't help. I am about to give up and run XPM, though I really don't want to.
Anyone else have any suggestions?

Oh... more info that I meant to put in but spaced:
BF2 works, it is the latest version.
AMD Phenom 9850 Quad Core 2.5 GHZ
RAM: 6.0 G
Video: ATI Radeon HD 4350

None of that should matter, but I have seen similar problems related to video cards.

I am in the process of installing Microsoft Virtual PC, which allows for a Virtual machine running within mine, and any OS I can install... I will try XPx86 first, and see how that works, and go from there.

If anyone is interested in this solution, I might be able to help a few of you. Microsoft has a website for students, where you can download TONS of expensive software for developers, all free. It's for students only. Windows Server, Visual Studio, SQL Developer, XNA Dev Studio, are some examples. The site is http://www.dreamspark.com. If this solution works, I recommend that you try getting registered there and getting a copy of Virtual PC. I'll update soon!

I tried reinstalling BF2, hoping that might help, but now I can't even install that. The startup menu comes up, and when I click install, it freezes. I'm hoping it's not a problem with my CD drive, running on a Toshiba Satellite A505 Laptop.

That sounds like a software issue.

Can you ALT+CTRL+DEL and look at processes, look for Install.exe, or BF2 installer.exe, or something similar? If it IS there, it's still running.

How long have you let it sit before killing the app?

As an update, I have to completely reinstall BF2 to test out the Virtual PC setup of PR, but I'm working on that now... it's so slow compared to my machine's normal speed... but then, my machine is sharing everything with a computer that doesn't exist, really, so it's not surprising.

So I might have an update in a few hours. I hope. Maybe.

Finally reinstalled BF2 with patches and everything.

However, I am getting the same problem as when I first started this thread. An error message comes up saying that the file is incompatible with the version of Windows I am running (64-bit Win7).

Any ideas on how to get the x64 version of the file or make it install in compatibility mode somehow?
