Randomly crashing to desktop (on certain maps)

Before I state my problem in detail, I would like to say that I have searched the locked threads similar to this, and even though I found a lot of examples similar to my problem, and enforced some of them, none fixed the issue. Things like this: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f370-p ... shing.html are similar, but don't solve my problem.

Ever since I got my new computer last August, I've had the same problem with PR. (My Battlefield 2 stopped working completely with my old computer.)
After I started playing PR, it would work fine, I could even run everything on highest settings for everything on a low ping server and have perfect gameplay. But, about 15 minutes in, it would crash to desktop. I would come back, reconnect, and it would repeat itself. My friend suggested that I lower my settings, and I did, and it crashed less often, but still, quite a lot! I came to the point to where I figured out the only thing that changed it was the textures, so I ran everything on highest and textures on medium. Yet, it still continued to crash.

I waited for the 1.5 patch to fix it. It was released, and ended up worsening my problem. I then started to disable every program on my computer (Steam, xfire, etc., because I know things like Steam overlay may cause problems.) It decreased the crashes a little, but they were still occurring frequently. I also got a program called Game Booster, but that rarely helped. I continued to try to tolerate my problem, and looked for solutions, but never found any, and PR has started to crash even more!

But, I have noticed something: It crashes more on some maps than it does on others. I don't think it has to do with size, because, for example, I've played maps like Kashan Desert and Muttrah City that don't crash as much as Silent Eagle skirmish. Another example: I played two maps today, Asad Khal and Karbala. I crashed and reconnected over 5 times on Asad, and never crashed on Karbala. And Karbala is the one with all the objects!

I have, let's say, a really good computer. (I don't like to brag, and I don't like to sound like a jerk, I just saved up for a long time to buy it.)

It has 6 GB of RAM, 1Tb of hard drive, a fantastic graphics card, sound card, and CPU, and an i7 processor. My monitor runs on 1600x900.
I am running on Windows Vista 64-bit (I also had some free Windows 7 deal, but I don't want to reformat my computer at the moment.)

I could have just not looked close enough at the tech archives, or just be missing something on my PC, but more and more I'm starting to doubt that people have ever experienced the same problem as me.

Thank for reading; I really appreciate your help!

Also, if this is out of place, feel free to move it to the BF2 :P R section. (I couldn't really tell where it was supposed to go.)

First work out whether any other game you have crashes.
Assuming you are up to date with DX9 drivers.
- Assuming you are not running a version of GFX drivers which are known to be buggy.

- If its just PR/BF2 you could be looking at punkbuster, as you mention 15 mins, and 20 mins is the punkbuster kick timer usually. Try running PR or just BF2 on a LAN without punkbuster selected for your server, or online on a non PB server. I'm assuming here you know how to check and update your PB.

- Also, you didn't mention if you clean installed when you moved from old computer to new? i presume you did, and if you didn't, then do-so.

If it does crash on a variety of games, pull out some of your memory and check in pairs until you find the culprit stick.

First thing to do if none of that applies to you, bin Vista and use your free windows 7 upgrade, considerably more stable than vista 64bit.

It hardly crashes at all away from PR, especially on games that use the most RAM and high-powered graphics cards, which surprised me. No matter, I'll still update my drivers, since I haven't in about two months.

If that doesn't work, I guess I'll reformat to Windows 7 (which is a pity because I have about 200GB of games on my PC and a lot of video files.) All the other categories didn't apply, I did a clean sweep (twice in-fact) and update punkbuster a lot (and it was a crash, not a kick.)

Thank you for the support! :) , though I really don't want to reformat my PC.... :/

Are you running SLI? Are you using a G19 keyboard? SLI works on some systems, not on others. And the applet for the G19 keyboard that is for BF2 needs to be uninstalled and reinstalled from time to time. Next, have you tried manually editing your .bin file with the large memory address aware command? Vista was so buggy when I was using it, that we had to do this all the time. Even the new version of PR has had to be manually edited on some people's systems.

I'm not running SLI, just a single GTX 295. My keyboard is also a Razer Tarantula.
I haven't tried to manually edit my .bin file though, and I think that might be the problem.

Can you please tell me or post a link to where the "large memory address aware command" is?

Thank you. :)
