With PR:ARMA2 and PR:Vietnam, I'm kind of concerned that the main PR will start declining.
I mean, this is a mod, and we're already relatively a small community compared to the huge blockbusters like Call of Duty or Team Fortress 2.
With PR:ARMA 2 and PR: Vietnam, do you think that people will lose interest in the regular PR? I really really hope not. The original BF2 R is so fun, I don't think that PR:ARMA2 will be a sufficient expansion, and I hope that PR:V doesn't steal the whole community.

The original BF2 R is so fun
There's so many people worried that noone will play PR:BF2 anymore; these alone would be enough to fill many servers

Definatly will.... and how could you possible compare this community to that of CoD.... not only is that a "real" game that sold millions, and had a production value of millions of dollars, is just stupid. Try comparing it to other mods... which yes it is doing very well compared to other mods.

It's actually a legitimate worry for small communities such as Australia's.
We're going to be divided over three games. Some of which (eg: PR:ARMA) people won't be able to run.

indeed, those ''lesser'' comunitys will only spread the word of PR. so the TRUE GAME
PR2 can be someting big has CS has in it's time. since we never more be stoped by those shiet of HARDCODED, and all dreans incluiding the DAWM fast rope will be realized
i just expeact they do something more popular, like a 256 players, PR can be sometimes quite boring if you are in large map.
but indeed the way of deploying assets and limited kits encourage alot more of thicking, those things are here more to disable someone spawing in you back that literaly unrealistc has well quite embarasing. deploying a big batlle but realistic battle is something needed. indeed.

Am I wrong when I say that as you make more and more assets for PR, you only bolster the assets for future projects?
If I am correct, then PR won't be dead until it as a repository of interest, assets, and community is defunct and obsolete.
"You see, there you go."

Hit the nail on the head. Everything PR DEVs make for BF2 can pretty much be used in all other PR iterations, making each next one that much easier to realize(at least, in terms of statics)
of course, gameplay changes for new systems are going to be their own beast, but youre correct in saying the ideas, concepts like insurgency gamemode and statics forged in one version can be carried over into the next.

the question begs though, how much of what is made for the BF2 R mod can be taken over to PR2, or do we start from a blank slate?

PR will live long 5 more years i would say.
In the end the servers will get really empty people will stop playing and the servers will slowly shutdown.
There will be like 1 populated server and that will also slowly die. After that BF2 R will reach its sadly end
:'(

24/7 we have around 3 server filled (64 player) with a few 30 player severs.
On the good days we have 5-6 completely filled server. I think the community is doing pretty well.

The obvious solution is to make good friends with 63 other people online and you'll have a full server every time. Well, in a perfect world maybe.
