[Static] Statoil gas station

I started modeling this 24th of June, and have been super busy with work since then. Today I found a couple of hours to get going again, and it's really just minor things to add if it's needed at all.

Attached is the first go from June and how the gas station looks as of today, along with a quick render of it. I'm doing only the modeling, textures will be made by someone else.

hmm this aint good :( i am sorry to say this since the model and idea is good, but the texture system in bf2 is much different than ordinary texturing.

you only have predefined texture pallets where you pick a color and small variations. you then follow up with a detail, crack, and dirt layer that all compliment each other. To summarize, traditional texturing and modeling is no good.

Thanks guys! Really appreciate it.

I leave that for the guy or girl who's texturing it. :) I'm used to modeling and texturing for a flight simulator. I use to UV unwrap and then either do all texturing in LightWave directly and render a baked texture with shadows and ambient occlusion, or render only the occlusion pass and apply it as multiply mode over the texture in Photoshop.

The render is just for show, if that's what you meant. :)

Welcome the the PR forum guys, good to see you are getting into this

The model looks absolutely amazing, excellent work :D

@motherdear:
Ola and Per have never worked on PR or bf2 before, and are the type modellers used to putting easy textures on stuff becouse they make stuff for fun or to look good. they are aware of the texturing system of bf2, we have other people that will texture and finish the models

if you see any problems with the model itself let us know

You dont seem to understand, no one excatly "textures it" in the normal term like texturing weapons and vehicles etc. Statics in BF2 work in very different ways and all you really do is place pre-made textures over a model from the texture pallets. This tut will explain it a little more: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f189-m ... ettes.html

Also you should really model in 3DsMax9 btw. When it comes to making statics for BF2, it is really just one person who just works on a staticobject who dose everything from the modelling, UVing/Texturing (to pallets), exporting and coding (thou the exporting and coding are all very simple for a static object, gets a little bit more complicated for destroyable objects but still nothing to big and I wouldn't worry about that).

If your modelling in anouther program its going to have to go to Max9 eventually to be exported and as it should be the static modeller who exports it there isn't really much point in modelling in any other 3D app tbh :p

The problem is that when working with statics that use texture pallets, your not working to the normal system of "Texturing to a Model", your doing the opposite, "Modelling to a Texture". Its kinda hard to explain but basically its a pretty different work flow and you can't really just take a model that isn't made for texture pallets and make it work very easily with texture pallets. You can but it just wont look at all good and most stuff simply wont work very well compared to the normal way of doing statics.

statoil is a mostly goverment owned company, thay merged with Hydro, and is now called statoilhydro, but this was a while back

the stations still use the statoil logo and style, and have not been taken over by anyone

This looks great and all, but how is the Project Reality advertising policy?

I mean, for me, seeing a Statoil gas station in game would be great for realism, but would it threaten any 'rules of engagement' in PR?

Norwegians dont sue eachother for any reasons. We like to put justice and stuff like that first. Its not like were killing anyone, stealing anything.

This is still a non profit organization.

I know, I know. Same here in Denmark. ;-)

Just thought of it like an international company. Many of those might get pissed. But it's just me worrying. :P

Anywho, it looks sweet! And I can't wait till I get to play as Norske Hær. :)
