[HELP] Undergrowth problem 4km

Im having a problem with undergrowth in my 4km map.

Most off the map is covered in only one type of grass even though there are 5 in the material. The other grasses seem to clump around the edges in parts of the map.
There are also large lines of no grass at all, these lines go across east-west.
These problems are visible in the editor and ingame.

What i have done:

Made a 256x256 map and edited the undergrowth settings.
Put the undergrowth files from that map into the 4km map.
Painted the undergrowth on the 4km map.

Here are some screenshots:

In the 4km map:

In the 256 map:

Here is the contents of my undergrowth.cfg file:

hi mate, I don't know of a workaround for your problem, the fix is to decrease density, you gotta play with it alot fo find the correct settings for getting the grass give a good coverage while not buggering up

try using the hexagon geometry instead of the bush stuff to get more coverage on at least some of the UG

Wow quick response :D

I find that the hexagon mesh crashes the editor, well not really a crash, when I choose it, it just sits there loading it forever.

Do you reakon reducing the amount of types in the material will make a difference?

it does to an extent, its a balancing act.

the hexagon and starmesh both cause crashes more than the rest imo, but they are superior for covering wide areas, I think they crash more because they are a more complicated geometry. But they are worth it, just remember to save once you've got then in, then when the editor crashes and you restart it you won't have to set it again (and hence not have to suffer the crashes again) its the adding them in rather than their presence which causes the crashes :)

also just so you know you will need to mess with the randomsize scale, otherwise your grass will be high enough for people to think they can hide in it, which is obviously not desired.

its not the hexagon object but more mostly all undergrowth.obj that get the editor crashing...

save often and load often ;)

I already messed around with that and I got it to a perfect veiwdistance/height for my map as I there is alot of overgrowth cover (shorter grass at the edges of the jungle, longer grass in the denser areas).

Thats why im using a 256x256 map to fiddle with UD settings ;) , doing it in 4km is near impossible with crashes following every setting changed.

Tomorrow ill work on it, ill try to use the hexagon and starmesh by putting them manually into the undergrowth.cfg file.

Thanks guys :)

Those meshes started magically working and they have really good coverage on even low density.

The density seems to have cleared up the problems I was having thanks :)
