Why is the compass so simple? Put some real military compass in the corner, or when you open your map.

The man has a point actually. Compas should be show when map is open not just all the time. You can still use clock for yelling out contact.

+1, gives a point as well to the vehicle HUD compasses.

Putting it in the corner might be fine; however, having it only come up when your map is open is a bad idea. I'm sure that most of the PR community uses it to call out the locations of enemies (CONTACT 250, ect) and opening your map every time to see where they are would hinder your reaction to the attack.

I do think that the compass needs some kind of change. Any suggestions?

open map, compass shows for 10 seconds, then fades out. BAM!

I'm normally against sacrificing realism over gameplay but this is an exception. Many players have trouble finding their targets even when given bearings and having to describe the enemy's location will lead to even greater confusion. Although it would be interesting to try in a kind of open beta of course, but that's not gonna happen as we all know.

It's fine the way it is. Clock directions don't work well because 99% of the time everyone in the squad is facing different directions, resulting in 6 points of reference. The current compass is an essential tool for letting squads react quickly and effectively to threats.

This

if you are an effective squad, everyone should be looking a diffrent direction, then someone yells, TO THE LEFT!, everyone turns to their left, now everyone is still looking on a diffrent dirction then they were, and a panic saying WHERE IS HE!

While this idea would be very nice, very realistic, it's important to note that this is Project Gameplay, not Project Reality.

Perhaps just make a 3D compass on the corner open all the time?

Or if you guys want to do that, make at least some "color code" of an area you are looking at, ie. IRL you can "point" to your squaddies where the enemy is, while in PR you gotta shout-out the bearing (or the region...)

Know what I'm saying?

Or you decide prior to starting the patrol which direction you will be moving out, and using that as your basis for the clock system, the point mans 12 o'clock being 12 o'clock for everyone.

Really not that difficult. Compass works fine as it is.

Oh yeah, I can really see that happening. In most pub squads, you're lucky to get a squad leader who even tells the squad where to go. Direction changes constantly and people have minds of their own. What you describe might work for disciplined soldiers or clan members who play like disciplined soldiers, but your average PR pubber isn't going to be able to keep that up all game long.

It's not that difficult to sustain, and when the direction changes, you just take the direction off of the point guy, you're all travelling in the same direction, so what's the problem? Your average PR player can read a compass.

Not gonna work. How am I suppose to know where the left of my squad's point man is when I'm watching the rear of my squad. This requires the squad to look at the point man.

Clock directions will never work, unless they are exactly like a compass, just different numbers....but then it makes no sense :/

as for me, we got perfect compass already, may be it is more handy than a rel one, but it so necessary
all i'd be glad to see is a little modification of the compass - make N and S letters colored blue and red

One possibility would be that the compass would appear and with a player hand animation when you press T or Q automatic or to choose it from the list.
One thing I understand the compass as it's today is not really a compass, it's just more a help for the player to know his position, but a more fine looking 3D compass in the corner would be appreciated.

IRL they have the compasses stuck to their chests anyway afaik so it would only take you slightly longer to check than it does in game.

Can't we make it an equipment? I dunno if that's a good idea. Probably not, nvm.

I like how it is, it's user friendly.

I like how it is right now, and I wouldn't want a little compass looking thing in the corner of the screen either.
Lack of 'real' self awareness, field of view, etc, sometimes makes the clock method difficult to use in most public games. The direction of travel isn't always that easy to discern.
Neither can players point, wave or in other ways than just words relay where enemies are.

Maybe the Military Advisors should tell us all how they do it in real life.. and then we can do it like that. Don't they use a "clock" system?
